Well, Trump's CDC did it first. But * is ignoring a Supreme Court ruling and imposing civil and criminal penalties. So * is doing it better, if by better I mean completely effing people over. Let's see if Kavanaugh (wrote the majority opinion) gives his balls a tug and lays the smack down.
So that is really part of the biggest problem with our government. Congress has abdicated their powers (for a long time now) to bureaucrats who are appointed by the executive administration in power. Partly to avoid blame for things and partly to ensure agencies are run "better". Notice how Congress does nothing. I could go on, but really until Congress actually does what they are charged with doing, the bureaucracy will continue to shape policy for government agencies through memos that echo the executive branch's agenda and policy. This effectively combines two branches of govt. or separates them as needed. THAT is how the CDC and other agencies can wield such sweeping powers. It suits the current admins agenda and Congress won't do anything to reign them in either (until said agency doesn't tow the line).
Couldn't have said it better myself. I can't remember which ghastly bill it was, but a few years back I think it was Glenn Beck counted the number of times the bill had the phrase "the Administrator shall determine..." or "the Secretary shall shall determine..." in regards to the various department's agendas and policies. Basically the bill gave the appointees (a/k/a political hack bureaucrats) damn near carte blanche on how they determine and execute their agendas. Can't recall the exact number, but suffice to say the phrase was used well over 1000x. Might have been the ACA, now that I am thinking of it.
Probably was the ACA. The beauty of it, in their eyes, is that those agency heads are unelected by and unaccountable to the people. It is one of the reasons I always ask people what they know about their guys "policies". Shouldn't be that way, but it is.
I know the internet is a jungle and discussion forums are savage but something I have noticed liberals are miserable, nasty, name calling and frequently wish death on those that do not agree with them, there is no agreeing to disagree.
Imagine the reaction from mainstream if Trump said I do not know if it is legal but I know it is right. Not sure I have faith in the general public to reject the democrats attack on capitalism. Wonder why there is so much money being moved off shore?
Democrats are scum, no doubt, no lie, no misleading. Democrats are the scum of the earth and their party supports that claim. Prove me wrong
Personally I would replace “Democrats” with “Liberals” in that post. Granted, in the minds of most Conservatives the two words are synonymous, but I know quite a few Democrats, and I’m sure there are a lot more, who don’t agree with what’s happening to this country.
I work with a few. Old school die hard dems. Steel mill and coal mine workers. Cant dis-ingrain it from their minds, that the old “party for the blue collar working man” has bent the middle class over and turned a blind eye to the thought of using vaseline to ease the pain. They are wrapping it in sand paper and these die hards are still defending it with teeth clenched. Even they know whats happening today is wrong. Wont openly admit it but deep down they know this has been the most embarrassing establishment to date
For me the word wouldn't be Democrat or liberal.... it is progressive. (and I live in the state that has saddled the country with the likes of Bernie Sanders and Pat Leahy)
