I guarantee what happened on January 6 is because of optics. People in high positions don't like the bad optics of police potentially looking militarized. So instead of making the optimal decision they make the sub optimal decision and in fact create more damage because of them being such weenies. They knew people were coming to the capital and should have mobilized thousands of national guardsman around that capital. They failed and every person from the chief down to the lower mid level people should all be fired.
