Wow, so IL raised the price for trailer plates from $18 to $118. They have since passed another bill which has been signed, reducing it to a more reasonable $25, but it doesn not go into effect until January 1st, 2022. So the lake about 30 miles west of me is checking trailers for plates in their boat launch parking. If expired, they are removing them from the vehicle and impounding them. Imagine coming back to load up your boat tofind your trailer missing.
That was my comparison, usually a warning within a reasonable amount of time. Ticket otherwise, no impoundment. Trailer plates expire end of April every year. By their language it sounds like a site policy or something. Doubt they would have done it if stickers were still $18, trying to punish those who refused to pay the 555% increase.
And those people that own boats and trailers are pumping the most into the economy every year. Tax the hell out of the backbone of this country. This is coming to a head.
I am surprised that the peoples republic of Minnesota allows us to have a lifetime sticker on boat trailers.
Only caveat to that is they would have to exempt anyone who has already purchased them. They could possibly make them non transferable to where if you purchased another trailer annual registration would be required.
Oh most definitely. And when/if that law came into negotiating there would probably be this massive dash of people getting trailers registered to beat the cutoff date.
I have had 2 boat trailers that had the lifetime registration stickers that I did not purchase, I also resold those same trailers with no title not needed.
