It could be because of what I went to college for but I watch the news and dismiss 90% of what I watch. I have found reading the news is much more fulfilling, for me it is easier to filter thru the BS.
While that is very true and I am pretty sure most of us here are much smarter then that. Voting based on memes alone is still a better option for stupid people then vote Biden/Harris because media pushed Orange Man bad. False information and intentional lies seemed to work quite well for them in this past election. Fight fire with memes... f the truth. It is the new normal.
While I won't disagree that this tactic was used (on both sides), I still struggle with the idea that Trump lost because of false information and the media. The man is quite possibly the most tactless egomaniac we've ever seen in a position of political authority. To think he lost for any reason other than his own doing just doesn't resonate with me. But who knows - maybe I'm wrong. Sadly, this is true. If anyone here knows who Renee DiResta is, I think she does a fine job of reporting on misinformation and how it spreads through our social channels. Below is an article she wrote about a very specific incident in WI and some mail found on the side of the road. The right took the story, turned it into something it wasn't, and then it spread like wildfire. Very interesting stuff. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/a...agandists-were-doing-something-unique/618267/ The problem with misinformation is that it's juicy. It sounds great. It gets people fired up. And it spreads much faster than the truth. By the time the truth of a "story" (meme, virtual post, etc.) is researched, confirmed, and published, people have moved on to spreading the next lie. Nobody cares about the truth. They care about getting worked up and being angry. It's a terrible cycle we're all caught in.
Don't worry ond, some people get worked up over the memes I post. They have a belief that I should fact check them before I post them. I don't and won't. What fun would that be? It is their job to do so if they please. There is a lot of truth in those memes. I probably post a couple hundred per month. How many of those were true vs false? Maybe our resident fact checkers could tell us. Germ.... Justin or maybe Bob? There is a lot more misinformation out there to be worried about than the few false memes that I accidentally post. More to come. Sent from my SM-G981U using Tapatalk
Biden is just as tactless and he won more votes than Obama supposedly. I cannot worry about disinformation in memes when disinformation has been a trademark of the "real" media for two election cycles.
Biden may be borderline senile, but he's nowhere near as tactless as Trump. He has his moments, but Donny is still winning that race by a country mile. Disinformation in memes poses as big of a threat to our country, if not a bigger one, than the real media does. There are far more people spreading garbage around FB and Twitter than are turning into Fox and CNN. We dismiss them because they're "just a meme", but they carry significant weight in forming, and then reinforcing, many people's opinions. Whether we choose to believe it or not.
All I can say to that is, if " you" put this much stock in the power of memes, I'm totally wrong....things are worse than I thought... independent thought, rational reasoning, common sense, independent research....all lost
So now there is a cease fire with the score 223 dead in Palestine 12 in Israel and Hamas is declaring total victory.
If the "you" that you're referencing is me, I believe you have completely missed my point. Now, before you discount an idea, you should look into it first. Having background information and context may not change your opinion, but it will at least allow you to have a more informed one. This is when you get to apply your thought, reasoning, and common sense. When you're not sharing memes you should give this a read. It's Renee DiResta's testimony to Congress regarding the proliferation of propaganda via our social media networks, and how it is being used to influence elections and sew the seeds of discontent in America. After all, if you can't beat us from the outside, you may as well let us attack ourselves from the inside. https://www.intelligence.senate.gov...&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Revue newsletter
"Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." Mark Twain long before memes.
First my "you" had no more nor less reference to a particular person than your "you"did. Second perhaps I'm losing time, please show me where I have EVER posted or shared a meme. Seriously I may have to schedule a Dr. appointment. BTW I have no "social media" accounts other than this site. Never have had one. Also your last part, well that proves my point now doesn't it.
Never said he wasn't an egomaniac. Between Hilary or Biden he was the lesser evil. My main point in all of this is how the news media trashed him and any republican for their agenda. They are then silent when the Dems do bad. It is not a fair playing field by any stretch of the imagination. You are worried about memes. I think the media is far more powerful. I don't think memes are going to change an outcome in any significant way. Yes they can rile people up but what doesn't now days. Will it change how a republican votes ? A democrat ? I don't think so. I have voted both ways for who I thought was best for the job. While I lean Republican, I will vote Democratic if they are the better choice. So far I have only regretted it once.
