Wait until things finally open back up. I know it's coming, the cries from the far left that their constituents cannot afford to go back to work. I've been saying it since the original $600 enhancement and continue it even at the new 1/2 that $300. The incentive all along was a job killer to hurt Trump as much as possible, now people have grown dependent on that extra income. It'a still $1200 a month in bonus money. Which is effectively a job paying $7.50 an hour on top of their 47%(in IL) of unemployment earnings. Waiters and waitresses have been by far the worst hit with restaraunts being closed and being on a lesser hourly wage. It all depends on how their employer calculated their tips for payroll, real numbers or percentage of hourly income showing they made less than what they actually did.
All the folks who need to pay their bills and spend stimulus elsewhere. I believe that is the case, I would like to show it
Not trying to derail, but wondering why you're in the office v working remote. If wager 75+% of 'information workers' are working remote...
From what I see bosses tend to want IT there so they can literally SEE them. That is the only way they know if we are working because what we do is not in the realm of thought for them. I see it more often when the EOT is by and large "older"
Primarily b/c working remote sucks. All of our developers have big desks with anywhere from 2-4 monitors and powerful computers connected to our internal network for file sharing, etc. Most of them don't have the same amount of space or resources to work at home, have to deal with kids and spouses remote working, etc. Having them VPN to the office then RDP to their desktop sucks balls and is not an effective way to develop. And not all of them have the desk space to bring their equipment home. Not to brag, but we have a pretty badass office setup and a group of people that enjoy working together. We actually like coming in every day. We did remote work for a few months last year during the start of Covid. It was okay and we got through it, but there's something to be said for interacting in person with your coworkers. Being able to eat lunch together and share a laugh. Being able to collaborate on a whiteboard or sit next to each other and troubleshoot a problem. I do enjoy the peace and quiet of WFH when my kids aren't around and I need to focus on something without people bugging me. But, by and large, I prefer coming to the office every day. There is a lot to be said about home/work separation and real-life interaction with other adults. And, because Todd wants to keep an eye on everyone to make sure they're working.
We are fully remote and never going back, and being we are professional we don't need to be micro-managed
I wish I had some more flexibility to work remotely when needed, but by and large I prefer coming to the office to working from home.
I admit I like to get up and go in I like to go in early and leave early but work from home at night. Travel and summer at the lake pretty much live for Memorial Day to Labor Day and not going to appreciate losing Sunday dinner.
Rdp sucks, but sounds like you may have some network or router constraints making VPN worse. Totally get the collab, multi monitor and desk real estate challenges. Content creation can consume some processing power... Family distractions and quiet are a mixed bag...I'll leave the boss man out... He only comes here once every 5 or so years to sell his cast offs... His trailer the last I recall
I'm 55...been managing projects delivered around the globe (India, Philippines, Poland, Italy, Spain, UK, Norway, etc) with people I'll never meet f2f, for nearly 2 decades. Not rocket science to suss out low performers. Imho, it's more difficult to effectively communicate based on different social and cultural norms...don't try to do a work dinner with a German and an Italian (the Italian will talk occasionally talking a bite, the German eat then talk), don't ask Indian workers questions with binary answers (Y/N...like, will this work be done on Thursday)...
