Term limits will not entirely solve the problem. If we want to be totally transparent, vote on spending by department. No amendments. When all the department spending is complete, put all the pork spending in one bill. We would then see how massive problem pork spending really is. And we would also see how is wanking whose richard to get what they want. Better yet, cut federal tax rates/ dollars to the bone. If states want bridges to no where, let those affected by the resulting state tax increases have a direct say in what is a need and what is a want. We would find out very quickly which pol is beholding to what special interest group(s).
Once they get deep in the swamp, they have too much financial backing to be beat most of the time. There are too many special interest groups and under the table deals in the web of other career politicians to make it much of a fair fight for a newcomer. And, too many uninformed voters that just vote for a name or a party.

This one hundred percent. When districts are drawn by those holding power the chance of voting someone out and changing chamber control is not possible. Most Democrat, and I'll even go as far to say one party, run states have just that. There is no way to switch it when most state level candidates run unopposed. There are too many Mike Madigan's in the government across the nation. Unfortunately there is no way to fix what we have in America. How do you fairly redraw districts across the country, and more importantly, who is going to do it and be trusted?
