This right here is exactly why I implore everyone to get a dash cam. They're affordable and video/audio does not lie. If I ever come across this situation my order of approach would be turn up the radio and call 911. I'd then switch the dial to 4 High. While I'm doing that I would wash the windshield. Not so much for visibilty but in hopes it may help with glass dust having a bit of moisture on the outside. While on the phone with 911, being recorded on the cams microphone, I'd explain I am legally transporting an unloaded firearm amd its ammunition and I am now arming myself. The first time one of them handguns is pointed directly ar me I unload through the windshield, duck and stomp the gas. I stop only when I feel it's safe and try my best to give the 911 dispatcher the most accurate account of what is happening, if not I have the video to fill the gaps and tell the story. If I am a racist white priveleged citizen ar that point, I'll let a jury of my peers tell me that. When it comes to fight or flight in that situation the answer is both. Emptying of a magazine should make most flee and one or two drop, those that drop are within the first 3 rules of firearm handling. Treat every firearm as if it is loaded, know your target and what's behind it and never point a weapon at something you do not intend to destroy. Point it at me, without a badge, and you intend to destroy me. Period
Likely would do nothing for incoming rounds or outgoing Nothing else might give them a moment of "why's this fool washing his windshield"? and an opportunity to escape.... I hope to never find out truthfully, but this chit is going to occur for another 4 1/2 years or more.

Matter of time before some lunatic on either political side flips his lid and starts shooting dozens of people at these riots and clashes. Simmering crap storm waiting to happen.
Have had small scale but I believe you are correct, next big one good odds of mass shootings, this is getting to the boiling point. To be honest I am powerless to have any influence to prevent or protect I will just look at the smoke column in my rear view and keep driving home to where nothing ever happens.
