All I can say is, If Congress was as concerned about such a tiny amount as $18,000 as you guys are. We would be much better off!

Heck if any local government was that concerned we would all pay about 10% less in taxes.

If you think this is about 18,000 now that’s funny. If her business needed 50,000 give it her. The money is has no issue wiith me, and I bet you know that.

I was being sarcastic, but you knew that. :)

But I don’t see what she did as profiteering.
I applied for a PPP loan for our company in the first round. The money just showed up this week. It sounds like she applied while being closed down as well.
As far as her returning the loan, I don’t think we can make that call without knowing the specifics of her situation.

furthermore, if the money isn’t used properly (for payroll, building rent, mortgage payments etc) she is gonna have to pay it back anyways.

The go fund me is irrelevant, gifts of support from people shouldn’t have a sway in the decision. JMO

I am glad you got the loan, I am glad she got the loan. She knew she had when she went to court.

Hey judge I was worried about my business and people. I applied for a ppp loan and did not hear or get any information from them. Two days ago I got loan money in my account. I can take care of my people and my self for a x period of time. I’ll stay close for x amount of time , but after that I’ll need to open or find another solution for money.

    It’s really not that hard.

Are you kidding? That 18k probably went straight to lawyer fees! She’s got to reopen to feed her kids! Lol

Uhh..... that is not a viable option in NC as cohabitation will earn you a couple months of free meals, compliments of the Department of Corrections. It's basically NC's version of driving 15 over the speed limit in Virginia, except (fortunately for us), it isn't "Enforced by Aircraft". Although considering the advances that have happened in drones over the past few years I wouldn't be surprised if that changes.

    Being serious now

I will just reiterate that i personally feel it is impossible to judge whether she should reopen even with the loan money showing up.

You don’t know what kind of debt she has incurred since she closed in March. 18k is a drop in the bucket when you have to pay employees, building rent, business fees, bank loans, product providers etc without a drop of income for a month. Who knows what her situation was like before she was forced to close her doors.

She is using that loan money to keep that business afloat, while at the same time earn back what has been lost due to circumstances outside of her control. And as far as I know, she is operating within the realms of what the loan was meant for.

Then again, she could be just out to suckle from the great whore, who knows.

All I am saying, is that there are so many more factors than just a “yes we’re open/sorry we’re closed sign.

Side note: how come it has taken so long for many small business to be approved, after all this was meant largely for them. and yet places like Harvard were getting millions approved almost instantly? Another fine example of the little guy getting screwed

This could not be more wrong... My business is considered an essential business and thus far I have managed to not lay off any employees or cut any of their benefits or pay. But as things stand now, despite being open for business, our revenues for the year will be down at least 25% which means that I will not be able to afford to pay myself this year. I have applied for a PPP loan, and if it comes through then I will be able to afford to pay myself about 20% of my normal salary. On the face of it the only one who stands to benefit from our PPP loan is myself, but that doesn't factor in option #3, which is fire everyone, close the business, and cash out (the business is debt free and has well over 7 figures in liquid assets and capital gains tax is pretty low so it is tempting). I do think that things will come back at some point and long term I am better off with the business than the cash and the PPP loan will make it a little easier to swallow in the short term, but regardless I am taking a pretty big hit either way, it'll just be a little less big of a hit with the PPP loan.

And as far as the salon lady is concerned, those were one of the first industries to get shut down and they have been closed for damn near 2 months. Meanwhile we haven't shut down for even a day and despite that, the loan still doesn't even come close to covering our costs/lost revenue. I can only imagine how much worse it would be if we had been completely shut down for 2 months so I could care less if she took the loan and still re-opened because if she is eligible to have the loan forgiven then that means she has been paying her employees salaries out of her own pocket for the past two months (you aren't eligible to have the loan forgiven if you lay off anyone or cut pay/benefits) and there isnt a snowball's chance in hell that "loan" is going to come close to making up for those costs. And on the other hand, if she has laid off some of her employees and/or cut pay then I still don't care because that means that what she got was basically just a regular old loan that she is going to have to pay back, albeit with a pretty low 1 to 1.5% interest rate.

And just a note, I 100% disagree with the concept of the PPP loan... but it exists whether I agree with it or not and one way or another the business will be paying for it in the future via taxes, fees, etc... whether or not we take it so I applied for it figuring that we might as well take it and if I am approved it'll at least offset some of the future tax burden it creates.

If you showed up in court, made public outcry your situation would be different. You did not, that's the difference.

She may need the money, she may have some debt that built up. Even if she wanted to just take the money and hoard it, I don't care.

When you go on TV and state the Government is not helping(in texas) when that was a lie at the trial, that's the issue.
