Yea but we should go to war with Iran because they are threat to us...... and bring on the new contracts
dnoodles, you need to do more research. Azar rose to be president of Lily. He also tripled the price of insulin. But I digress...
That would be fair to say. But there would have been crap thrown at any president by half the population. Having said that, there are people at CDC and FDA that need to be held accountable for their actions. We, the people, get our say on the actions of the administration.
That's speculation and you have no idea, we do know if he followed the lead when he was warned he'd be doing a big fat I told you so Being a leader means you have to make unpopular decisions, are you saying Trump does not have the guts to make them? Which he does not, see any item he has cut in his budget, until he goes to a rally in that town and does a 180 and puts the money back. Now I ask and I am not surprised you did not answer What time frame is trump modeling to "Make America Great Again"?
My guess is that they all knew very, very early on that this was going to be a lot more serious than people expected. They had two options: A) Tell everyone it wasn't that serious (even though they knew otherwise) and slowly ease the population into the true seriousness of the epidemic over the course of a couple weeks. B) Tell everyone the full story right then an there and let the chaos ensue They obviously went with option A and in my opinion that was probably the right thing. I imagine that any lives that could've been saved by being up front with everyone from the get-go and implementing the stay at home orders a couple weeks earlier would've been more than offset by those lost due to the total chaos that would ensue if the whole country found out at the same time they were going to be locked down for two months, up to a third of the country would be unemployed, and hundreds of thousands were going to die. Imagine how many people would've caught the virus during the mass run on the grocery stores that would've ensued right after the announcement, probably more than the would've been prevented by the earlier stay at home order. Not to mention the effect the panic buying would've had on practically everything. Look what a comparatively minor amount of panic buying did to toilet paper and hand sanitizer. There would likely be people who did not have any access to food whatsoever by now because the first wave of people to arrive at the grocery would've literally bought everything in there and stockpiled it and shortages like that would have caused everybody who could to start stockpiling food as soon as it arrived in the store. I would not be surprised if over the coming months people discover that the administration knew a whole lot more, and knew it a whole lot earlier, about how serious this was and kept it secret. Trump will obviously take the blame from the media and political establishment for keeping secrets, blood on his hands, etc.... but in all honesty there is a reasonably valid argument that if they had released the full story to the public sooner we would actually be worse off. I am not a very big fan of government secrecy but in this situation I think it may have been warranted. I know that I wouldn't have panicked and I imagine most of the folks on this site would've been able to handle the news without panicking too as we are outdoorsmen and woman who could survive pretty well given access to water, something to build a shelter with, and a weapon to hunt with, but we are a small minority of the country and there are a lot of people, particularly in the cities, that would've absolutely lost their ****. We could've very well seen rioting and looting for supplies. I also think that there would've been a lot more pushback on the shelter in place if it had been implemented all at once and at a time when the virus was just starting to spread and didn't appear to be that bad (it's a lot easier to convince people that its necessary when there are 50,000 confirmed infections as opposed to 100). Also, by slowly implementing it across the country it let the people in the areas that were first to lock down think that it was just a temporary local thing because the virus was hitting their area particularly badly and that if **** hit the fan the non-infected areas could send supplies and aid. For those of us in the areas that waited until later to lock down, by that time we were all pretty much expecting it and since we had the opportunity to see how things were going in the places that were already locked down everyone was able to see that it wasn't some end of times return to the Stone Age type ****. I mean just think of what the reaction would have been if they just came out back in early-mid February and announced one day that there are now over 100 people all over the country with confirmed cases of the coronavirus so in 48 hours the a nationwide shelter in place order goes into effect and it will remain in effect until further notice. I think thats also the reason they keep coming out with the clearly overly optimistic time frames. IE we should be reopened by end of march, then were going to have the country open by easter, then first of may, then may 15th, then June, etc... To most of us those all have seemed pretty unrealistic, but thats because theyre not aimed at us, those estimates are for the 25% of the country who are idiots that will believe anything and who also happen to be the ones who would've panicked and done really dumb **** if they would've known back in march that the shelter in place orders were going to last at least several months.
I watch the hearing today and it was really good, minus two Senators. Tim Scott From SC was awesome Lamar Alexander did a great job running the hearing and has a cool dog. Senator Murry from WA ask really good questions Bernie and the Georgia Senator Loeffler ask the worst and dumbest questions. I missed some due to a meeting, but I like Lamar's answers to the Strategy and so would have you Dnoodles.
Just to play devils advocate: is it easier to contain a fire at 1 acre or 50, or 500 or 5000 or 50,000?
