PS.. they made our meter a smart meter yesterday, they are changing ALL meters now. I said to hubby last night , I know what they say it's for, eliminating meter readers and estimates. This said, I asked will it allow remote shut down of meters( power) and how hackable?.. This morning our power went out, just before I left there were zero trucks in the area.hhhmmm So that's what colored my thoughts when I saw the original post. That and knowing homes heating and air are remotely controlled by power companies out west

They did this in northern Illinois years ago. ComEd came and changed everything out. They cut the labor involved to read them onsite, but those who manage the software and all things associated will surely cost more per year in salary. Add the fees, the upgrades, and whatever else they can tack on. At the end of the day, prices went up after those were installed. Then JB took office, then Biden took office, and now my ComEd bills are higher than ever. Electric energy costs in my 1740 sq ft house are comparable to a small car payment during the summer time.
