Pretty sure when I was a kid we were on public assistance...5 kids living in a 2 BR apartment...I took loans and worked hard, went to college and have had a decent series of jobs in my career field. 1988, one of my first real jobs, I helped develop EEO reports for a fortune 50 company....then the reports provide to the Fed gov were gender, race and limited ethnicity...there were 7 dimension tracked. A few questions and I learned, it didn't exclusively matter of you had the skills or were best qualified for a job... Circa 1993, I learned, if you were a minority owned business, you could bid 25% more on a federal contact and be considered (all other factors aside)... A few years ago, a former employer announced specific percentages for certain types of workers...x% women managers, even certain races... I heard about a lawsuit by an Asian student, against an ivy league school about a year ago. Seems to tie to the article... My kids say it's just my 'white privilege'... I do believe there is systemic racism...often it's nothing like what some would have you believe...
