Please enlighten us with quips from an Australian comedian who needed an accent in America to be successful. How about a stand up on mental illness does he have a funny bit on that?

if I had to take a guess, I'd say 90%+ of all student debt is owed by white people. Probably closer to 95%.
This is only a ploy to get young people off their lazy stupid asses and vote D.

You want to do something about predatory debting practices? Put more money back in people's pockets and the economy? How about a progressive cap interest rates on credit cards?

$5k or less, cap at 15%
    $10-20k cap at 12%
    $30-50k cap at 9%....

and so on. Let people dig their way out of debt by working rather than defaulting.

...Oh, wait, Brandon has been in the pocket of credit card companies for DECADES. NahGonnaHappen.

I have a hard time feeling sorry for people with credit card debt, or student loans.

debts are contracts and contracts should be honored, I am just making the point that if politicians actually gave a crap about helping people out (at no cost to the taxpayer) the best and fastest way to doing so would be to regulate commercially held non-secured debt.

Take out a home equity loan, if you listen to the commercials. Thing is credit cards will not take your house, evidently nobody learned this in 2008.

Gotta own said house first- the biggest barrier to home ownership is debt/income ratio; and the largest factor of that ratio is non-secured debt.

    Credit card debt...What's that?
I don't even know what card rates are...we spend on the card what we have to pay at end of month. When we have ever had a "late fee " on a full payment due to THEIR mailroom They have received a call from me. I do not do BS game play. Have never payed interest nor a bogus late fee.

I have credit card debt, for now. All 0% until June- September of 2023. Sure, had to pay 3% fee($30 dollars on a thousand over 18 months) on the "loan" upon funding, but still better than 8.99% for 36 months it takes to pay off most charges. I don't charge though, I use convenience checks for cash deposits so it is even better as cash advances are closer to 20%+ interest charges.

Should all be paid off in the next 60 days.

The real gotcha's are the 0% interest if paid in full within 36(or longer) months scams. People pay the minimum payment the entire time, get down to a few hundred dollars at the end of the 36 months then get a new bill with $800 dollars interest tacked on that is now being charged a 19% interest rate and minimum payment doubled.

both correct, but as someone who got sucked into predatory credit card companies back in college (seriously, they had booths, hot chicks, and would give out swag to students for signing up, cash bonuses, etc) it really was predatory. My parents were young and didn't really understand finance and didn't teach me; and public school sure as hell didn't either. MBNA and Capital One were the most egregious.

I had to learn it the hard way. Took a long time, too.

Government bans loan sharking and regulate payday loan places pretty hard...why not credit card companies? Oh, because they're based in Delaware.

I'm gonna be the odd man out here.
This **** is happening because of...
#1. Parents coddling their kids. Give/make them do chores...!any chores and not only a small 10 minutes a day one.
#2 Quit with the cell phones. No reason at all a kid needs one.
"3, bring back parental control . None of this "I'm gonna count to three" bullshit! What a croc!
#4, quit medicating them per Docs orders. They will do just fine.
Shootings were unheard of when I was growing up and we BROUGHT guns to school.
If you realize your boy is a fricken dweeb/nerd, change things and make him a young man!

Don't allow your kids to become fat.. self esteem will ALWAYS become a factor!

The medication is the one thing I forgot. That is a huge factor in this. Ritalin was a big thing when I was a kid, I was on it and it did not help because it was not needed.

They treat behaviors with guesses, my behavior at the time was not hyper activity, it was revolt and confusion. My dad was murdered and a lot of other things happening that had me so confused I was unsure of how I am supposed to act. They assumed my diagnosis and tossed meds my way.

Do schools really need to be locked doors?

Why not use that same money to make them gated community'esque?

One way in. One way out.

Yet, you have a large play area for sports and recreation. If it works for the elites, why can't it work for our children?

Yah.. well I grew up poor with the whole hiding from the debt collectors knocking on the door, utilities turned off, bother and sisters Christmas bikes repo'd. My school shopping for clothes...waiting for cousins hand me downs.
I had Three jobs in high school and worked in college. I have been a crazed bill payer and cheap person. 64 plenty of money and I still turn collars around and patch jeans, grow food and shop only sales. There are few materials around I can't " repurpose" and do regularly. Taught my kids this as well. Both are pretty well off because of their work ethics and detail to Bill paying.
Hubby grew up pretty well off,but his parents were hard workers...My cheapness does drive him a bit crazy.

Remember that this is the same govt that wants to label soccer moms domestic terrorists. And you want to give them more spying power.

Also, Remember to game the good citizen credit score algorithm by posting pro govt posts twice a day.

I’m in the exact same boat. I was POOR POOR growing up after my parents divorced. Elected to live with my dad who had an extremely hard time keeping up with the bills making boats and trimming trees on the weekends. We lived in a trailer house with holes in the floor and patched up windows in Minnesota winter. Lived off of space heaters during a 2 week stretch of winter when we couldn’t afford propane and frozen pipes. Next summer I helped every weekend tree trimming on the weekends and our electric got shut off for a week.

I elected to take out loans on a 4 year marketing degree and was the first in the family to graduate a 4 year college in my family. I’m still carrying those loans and I fully intend to pay those back. I received 0 assistance and 0 grants am now proud to say I’m under $5000 owed after last week.

**** is hard for some people. Everything is not as easy as some may have it.

I agree that student loans should not be forgotten but to say you don’t feel sorry for those with that debt is wrong (in a sense). Those taking out $200,000 loans for things they will never get a job to pay back is wrong. Context is everything.
