Some of you in the MN/WI area have probably heard about this. Polaris is moving one of their plants to Mexico, leaving roughly 600 people out of work. You hear things like this happening all the time, but it's different when people you know personally are the ones losing their jobs.
It's a real shame that corporations are doing this, especially in a small town such as Osceola, which has depended on Polaris for a long time.

Needless to say, my next wheeler won't made by those money hungry ********.

Too bad for them. They had such poor reliability for years and now they are among the best made machines. It will only go down hill now that they will be made in Mexico.

I love my Polaris. Haven't had a bit of trouble with it. I plow snow and all sorts of things with it. I don't know of any 4 wheeler that'll be American.... do you? You'll either be buying Japanesse, Mexican, Canadian or something. The electic jobs just don't have enough raw power for where I go on the ATV club land.

At least in my book, it's different if the company was founded in the US and then jumps ship for cheaper labor than a company that was founded overseas.

i hate to say this, but.........

we are getting exactly what we've been asking for... as consumers we want everything and don't want to pay much for it... in order to keep the company afloat and still stay price competitive polaris (and everyone else) is being forced to do this kind of crap... its the whole wal-mart consumer mentality... more more more - cheaper cheaper cheaper....

USED to be built by Suzuki..."most" are now built by AC themselves...

If you guys are looking into Arctic Cat, Anything with the "H" symbol is built By Arctic Cat themselves. I have a 650H1 'H' meaning Hemispherical, Basically they're Hemi's :D

You guys have seen the pics of what I've put mine through.

Thats why I added "except jobs". maybe you don't understand what "except jobs" means? Do you understand english? Can you read and write? If not, you really ought to think about it. Reading and writing can be extremely helpful in life.

    Oh My God...

...another opportunity for me to say????

What I am curious about is the cost of those 600 employees per year. Plus, their location in the far north of the US this puts them quite a distance from any users in the southern US and in Central or Southern America. The cost to the company and other users is increased by the current location. Notice that they will leave Snowmobile operations in MN? Because they probably don't sell many in Central America or even in the southern US. Plus, what are their current facilities like? have they outgrown them? Are they outdated? What will a given investment provide in each location. Maybe they are getting a lot better facility with more automation and more technology in one location over another.

Here is the first paragraph from their statement:

MINNEAPOLIS (May 20, 2010) – In an effort to improve its long-term competitive positioning, increase operational efficiencies and position the company for future growth, Polaris Industries Inc. (NYSE: PII) today announced plans to realign its operations and refocus on its core strategic manufacturing processes. The Company will create manufacturing centers of excellence for Polaris Products by enhancing the existing Roseau, Minn. and Spirit Lake, Iowa, production facilities and establishing a new facility in Mexico.

And from further on in the statement:

Snowmobile assembly will remain in the Roseau facility and Victory motorcycle assembly will remain in the Company’s Spirit Lake facility. As part of the manufacturing realignment, certain Osceola manufacturing processes will be moved into the Roseau, Spirit Lake and Mexico facilities to more effectively utilize Company resources. In addition, certain manufacturing processes and equipment are intended to be sold to suppliers whom will continue to supply components to Polaris. Other non-strategic component manufacturing operations currently performed in the Osceola facility will be outsourced. The realignment will begin immediately and is scheduled to be complete in 2012. The Company will look to have the new production facility in Mexico operational beginning in the first half of 2011.

So it appears that not every job is lost, some will be at other companies and some will be at other locations while, yes. some will be in Mexico. In fact they are trying to sell some operations to keep some of their operations in N. America.

Funny that we all will do what is best for us, but complain about a company doing what is good for them. Similar to me telling someone that they should never move for a job, they should stay in the town they live in forever because it is good for the town, their employer, whatever...
