Today my friend chased a couple of poachers off the property we hunt. He's the land owner and was out hunting on the east side of the property when he saw two guys with scoped rifles walking 150 yards apart. We have State land surrounding us on three sides. The last two years we have had an issue with this. We have lost treestands and game cameras and an ATV. The FWC officer came out and he found a heavy trail that went from our land to an area on state property where the poachers are parking. He wants to wait until the season is over to try to catch these guys in action. Not sure why he wants to wait. He thinks it might be "a mistake that they were on the wrong land" since they can small game hunt on the state land now. Any one have any advice? I'm sure these guys have been doing this for awhile. I was thinking about putting up some old cameras that I have near the trail they are walking.
That's sucks. Caught a poacher on our lease and my buddy took his picture with his smart phone of the guy holding his rifle and so the smart phones gps even marks where the photo was taken. Very cool. May want to try that next time. Called the game warden and I guess the owner will see him in court. The guy said he knows the owner and has been hunting there for 20 years!. Called the owner and he and he pointed out you may know me but I never gave you permission to hunt my property.
Make sure you put a camera watching the camera you put out. In case they try to steal the camera you're using to catch them trespassing.
Warden wants to wait until the season is over? WTF has he lost his mind? Catch them red handed and bust them now. Maybe call the Sheriff.
