Looking at getting some late season cold gear. I hunt in Georgia and it usually doesn't get cold until right at the end of the season. Our cold here isn't anything like other states. No snow (99.9% of the time) 20's to 30's if we are lucky and get a cold streak. I hunt mainly out of a lock-on tree stand. I usually get cold after 3 or 4 hours. I have tried layering but still tend to get cold. I don't buy camo clothing a lot so I want something that is high quality that will last me for several years. I have heard a lot of talk about Plythal and Sitka Gear but they are both pricey and I want to get the best bang for my buck. I don't want to drop $500 or more on cold weather gear and still get cold. Anyone used either brand and if so what models of the brand do you use and what are the pros and cons of them other than price? Thanks in advance!!!
I don't own any sitka yet, plan on buying it all this year... Everyone I've talked, they all absolutely love it.
I'm a Sitka fanboy as well. As mentioned, a good base layer is needed. And it depends on how well you deal with cold, how far are you hikes to your stand, what climate you hunt in, what temps you hunt, etc. I didn't use my fanatic jacket until we reached subzero temps. I was able to sit in 20 below last season comfortably for 4 hours. I shot a doe when it was 11 below. To me my Sitka proved to be very good and impressed me like it should have.
I like pieces from both but as everyone said, it is more about your cold weather set up and than the name on your gear. Both of these are pretty spendy for the 2-3 weeks of cold we do get in the south. I own pieces of both but I found them on the discount which makes it better. The key for me was learning WHY I was cold before I started addressing the solution.
