My oldest son just won a position on his collegiate cycling team to compete in Boulder CO, in Division 1 Cyclocross Nationals. (bike racing). He took 5th overall as a Sophomore in his Conference Championships. Also, his College (Marian University in Indianapolis) was just selected by USA Cycling as the Collegiate team of the year. He made the team last year and they won Nationals in Madison Wisconsin. I cried like a baby. I know how freaking hard he works to be at the top end of his sport. It is sick. Last year, when he was home for Christmas break, he rode his bike over 60 miles one day when the high was below zero! I drank beer. Why? Because his scholarship affords me that luxury! lol Go Vance! I added some photos on post #13 here.
Fletch that's awesome! He sounds very passionate about his sport, that's special...congrats and best of luck to him!
Pretty awesome accomplishment. I've never been that dedicated to anything in my life besides bowhunting and maintaining my grades throughout school. Wish I could claim otherwise. Congrats to him!
I've done a lot of things in sub zero temps... riding bike isn't one of them. I couldn't make 60 miles on a nice day if it were all down hill. Congrats to your boy !! Sounds like he has earned it !!!! Tim
I have a friend who does that in utah.....crazy crazy crazy hard stuff....especially in those mountains.....good for your son.....hell of an accomplishment Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
Good stuff love hearing hard work paying off stories. Congrats to him. Sounds like he is willing to go the extra mile (so to speak hahahaha... I just made that up and didn't even know it)
Thanks to all. To say that I am a proud father would be a huge understatement. The kid just flat out works his rear off to be where he is. He is not afraid of "real" work either. He is working every spare moment of break at Scheel's in Des Moines while he's back. Here is Vance and his Championship ring from last year. Hoping for a repeat.
Brag away Dave!!! That's what were suppose to do with our kids when were proud parents!! A big congrats to your son!!! Love his determination!!
Outstanding fletch! His dedication and desire in cycling will push him towards great heights in not only sport, but after he graduates.
