Yeah, but most think of the Rebel Flag is this horrific racist symbol. Which I'm starting believe that from reading online is mostly Yankees, not Northerners is the main people who believe this...lol. There is a difference...lol. Kinda of like Southerners and Rednecks.....lol. The one their hammering is the Southern Cross TN Battle Flag. Sent from my XT830C
This case was being heard to provide a pacifier. It never should have been on docket because it had so little chance of ruling against the government.
Those states still exist today, much in the same way that Japan still exists. Only because the victors saw the benefit in allowing them to resume business. The Japan that exist is not the same Japan that existed Pre-WWII, just like the southern states that succeeded from the union are not the same as they were before. Personally I find it offensive that there are so many Japanese tourists that visit Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona, but just because I find it offensive, doesn't mean I need to be out in protest against their rights to be there.
They are the same guys with a pair of nuts hanging off the hitch of their trucks. Wannabe redneck posers.
Slavery was a big part of why the South wanted to secede In their declarations of secession from the Union, some Southern states expressly mentioned slavery as a reason for their departure. "... an increasing hostility on the part of the non-slaveholding States to the institution of slavery, has led to a disregard of their obligations ..." South Carolina wrote in its declaration. The state of Mississippi aligned itself with slavery right off the top of its declaration: "Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery -- the greatest material interest of the world." Georgia named slavery in the second sentence of its declaration. The sad list goes on. "To put it more simply, South Carolina and the rest of the South only seceded to preserve the violent domination and enslavement of black people, and the Confederate flag only exists because of that secession," said CNN political commentator Sally Kohn. "To call the flag 'heritage' is to gloss over the ugly reality of history." Your link supports my thoughts nicely. Thanks.
Yeah, we got those redneck posers here too....lol. They make me laugh, the nuts swinging of the hitch as they pull into their subdivision....lol. If your gonna act like a Redneck country boy, at least live on a farm....lol. At least that would make more sense to me. Sent from my XT830C
Japan still exists as a nation. The CSA was formed, existed for a short time and then ceased to exist. The comparison with Japan makes no sense. Japanese who visit those sites are doing so to show respect or just to experience history. The Japanese, like the CSA LOST the war. And the Japanese recognize that they LOST. I try to be kind of open-minded and understanding, recognizing that for many Southerners, that flag just says, "I'm a good ole boy from the South." But that flag also represents a despicable part of our national history. So maybe it's time that responsible Southerners found a different way to express their good feelings about the South. While we're on the subject; I don't get this thing about the "South." I live in the Northern part of the country, true, but I don't see myself as a "Northerner." I live in Michigan, a state with more coastline than the entire east coast of the U.S. and no sharks. We have great hunting and fishing, very few ticks, no scorpions, and no chiggers. We do have one very small, very unaggressive poisonous snake. It's protected, because it's not very good at defending itself. We also have, generally, pleasantly cool summers and fun snowy winters. It's 72 degrees right now at 3 PM, going down to 56 tonight. People who live in the other Northern states are, over all, not as lucky as we are. Of course, it's not all rosy. We had a couple tornadoes come through the other day, one west of us and one south. Some houses were heavily damaged, but no one was hurt or killed. The one west of us destroyed four churches. I hope that's not some kind of message. Tornadoes happen, but fortunately, they're quite rare.
Awesome post! I loved the Dukes of Hazards too! I saw an article yesterday where they will no longer out the Confederate flag on any General cars they replicate.
Japan exist as a nation because of the United States today, but they are not even close to the same nation they were before the war. So to say that they are still a country may be true, but Imperial Japan ceased to exist after the surrender in 1945. It is not the same as it was, in that it's entire form of government was changed. The same states that made an alliance to secede from the union have the same exact things in common with Japan. The form of government they formed is no longer in existence, but the states are still states. I never said the CSA still existed, I said those states still exist.
Let them fly on their private property, it's their right to do so. The issue was not the flag on trucks, cars , bikini's and flags on private property. The issue was flying it over a Government owned building, news flash to our southern friends, you lost deal with it
Dude there are backwards rednecks all over these United States, the main difference is in the south being a redneck is a badge of honor
I know you're having a tough time following along. What you're failing to understand is there is not "one" flag, but several that are important to this situation. You really do not understand enough about the history to debate it. You seem interested and well intentioned, maybe spend some time reading this afternoon and report back.
While this is true, it is also true that a large majority of Northern's look down on southerns as uneducated and unintelligent. Just like people from the East and West coast think people from the Midwest are backwards and unsophisticated.
Most of us look at Yankees the same way. Like I said before, I see a difference in Northerners and Yankees. Like Southerners and Hicks....lol. There is a difference.... Lol Sent from my XT830C
Its no secret where the students who perform poorest on standardized tests come from. Of course if you let the state write the testing materials, there would be questions like "How many days did it take God to create the earth?" and then the students would probably get better test scores. Us "northereners" pride ourselves in being educated on facts and science, but often we fall short when it comes time to skin a possum or build a still.
Grow up. Never did I say there is one flag in question. But, there is one main reason for the advent of multiple flags in the south. None of them good. None of them worthy of flying them over a government building. You posted a link that gave a lot of support to my ideals and now you make it personal because you cant compete at a debate level. You were the first to take this thread to a personal level by insulting my IQ. That very fact makes you look a little desperate and offended. The only reason you could be offended is if you fit the demographic I offended. The more you post, the more I am convinced that I owe you an apology for offending you. Sorry kid.
