I am looking at buying some trees for our property this year and was wonder what some Do's and Don'ts are for planting seedlings.

We are going to buy 50 White Pine, 50 Blue Spruce, 50 White Spruce, 25 Apple, 25 Pear, 15 Oak, 15 Walnut.

Any information or Tips for any of these tree species would be appreciated.

Root gel..specifically called Water Sorb..Mix in a 5 gallon bucket and dip the roots in them..Really helps in times of drought. The fall before I like to treat the area with Round up to kill any vegetation. Once planted to control grasses you can use Clethodim with a non-ionic surfactant to kill the grasses. You can spray right over the top of the trees it will not hurt them. Don't cut the roots if possible and make sure when planting them the roots are facing down ward. J rooting is a major cause of planting failure. Protection is a must or the deer will browse the pine and fruit trees. Good luck!!

Good advice...especially the part about killing existing grass. Grass will choke out tree seedlings pretty quickly. If I'm planting in rows, I've even ran a disk through where I want to plant to help with weed competition.
