Well we got a "LITTLE" rain (0.12") this morning with a chance of more this afternoon/evening. I'm headed to the farm tomorrow morning to plant my Daikon Radishes, Buckwheat and Brassica mix. I sure hope we get a little more rain in the next week or so to get it going. Last year I planted and no rain for over a month=failure. I sure would like to have something green on my property for this fall. There won't be anything green left in the woods to eat.

In another month or so I'll plant my wheat and oats.

Insert pic of me doing a rain dance here.

I will be doing the same thing. My aunt said we she got 1 inch Thursday night and then it rained again this morning so I'll be heading out tomorrow to get all of my food plots done hopefully. Keep the rain coming!!

    same rain story by me.

Keep us updated. I am interested in how the mix you got with buckwheat in it turns out. Post some pictures if you can.

Well it turns out we had 1/2" of rain over the last week. It was nice and moist on top when I got there at 8 am. I spread my fert and started discing it in and started turning over dry dirt. The rain hadn't soaked in very far. Disced up real nice and fine and was perfect until the sun and wind started drying things out. By the time I was done discing what I did first was getting pretty dry on top. I cultipacked everything down to conserve what little moisture there was left then spread my seed. Planted a mix of turnips alongside some Daikon Radishes then sowed some buckwheat over top of that. Did this in two different locations in my food plot. The buckwheat should take off pretty fast and the deer can chow on that until the turnips and radishes are ready. Gonna see which the like better the turnips or the radishes. After sowing the seed I then went over it again with the cultipacker to push the seeds into the soil and hopefully pack things down a little more to trap some moisture in the ground. I dug up a few spots and there was nice moist dirt down a couple inches. If the seeds sprout they should be able find water if they send down a root.

Also planted a small area in just buckwheat. The deer at my place really love this stuff and its cheap and easy to grow. It will be gone after the first frost, but I'm sure the deer will like something green to munch on until then.

Disced up some ground I had corn in too. Gonna plant wheat there in another month or so.

Ahhhh. I thought you planted a straight mix of turnips. Thought it sounded a little strange.

The deer have really destroyed my buckwheat patches that I planted in June. I walked through it last weekend and for a second I didn't think it was growing until I saw that they've been eat down to the ground. I forget what is frost again?

I planted 3 different plots and 4 different seed mixtures. I also coated the seeds with Evolved Harvest Plot Fertilizer.

I planted a patch of straight radishes and then a strip of radishes and rape last night.
