What is the best way to take care of a small foodplot that I can't get a tractor or anything to? Its only about 1/4 acre in the middle of the woods that I went in with a chainsaw and worked my butt off cleaning out all the small trees and underbrush. I figured I would rake it clean but not sure the best way to disk and cover.

Put down all the lime you can carry in and mix it in the best you can. The soil in the middle of the woods is going to be very acidic. Then get some sort of throw and grow seed mix and scatter it right before a good rain. Some nitrogen rich fertilizer probably wouldn't be a bad idea either. Depending on what you are planting.

Do I need to get the leaves out? I'm kinda worried about the dam birds eatin most of the seed before it has time to sprout, thats why I want to cover it. Is a rake the best option?
