This spring I converted some long tall grass to lawn making my lawn that much bigger then It Is already. It usually takes me about 5 hours to mow and I have a 72" deck on my John Deere. My brother on the other hand put a couple very small food plots In for the deer when winter hits In hopes of keeping the deer around In late season this year. He had some corn left over and asked me If I wanted any of It. I said sure, why not I figured. The stuff that I converted Into lawn this spring Is about 100 yards by 70 yards next to a row of huge pine trees. There was a spot about 30 yards by 30 yards that wasn't growing lawn at all so I thought why not try putting some corn In there and see If I can get some deer In the yard like I use to have years back. So far so good It's coming up awesome!! It's Round Up ready Field corn so when the weeds start growing I can give her a shot. I cut a couple tree's down the other day making room for a big wooden play ground that I'm setting up for my daughter Lydia so I took the brush that came from the box elder trees and set It up In the corner about 13 yards from where my corn Is growing. That brush pile will serve as a ground blind possibly come this fall If I am lucky enough to get some deer to visit It and also If were lucky enough to have more then one tag In the area I hunt (It's usually a one tag area). I also already have the tree picked out where my Reconyx or No Flash Cuddeback Is going to go. I'll post some pics when the corn gets a little taller to show you all what I got.

On a side note man did that suck planting this all by hand and tilling unbroken ground with a small tiller!!! Ever tilled a spot that has never been worked up before, hard as a rock!! All In all It took me 8 hours to do and finish up. I planted 13 rows 3 feet apart so I can keep It tilled up with my tiller. If It gets any bigger next year It's getting planted by a corn planter next time.

    Shame on you Steve!:busted: :deer:

Just joking of course, hopefully she grows good and brings in a few deer for you this fall! I hear you on tilling unbroken ground, when we put in our food plots last year I had to run a 4 bottom plow over it twice and then disc it out. Took forever but in the end it sure did come out good!

Good luck Schultzy. I have a corn feeder in my back yard. But the deer are off limits except for my Nikon.

Wouldn't It be cool to shoot a deer out of your own back yard? That would be cool as hell I would think. The place I live In now Is the place I grew up In as a kid (I bought my parents house and milk hauling business when they got divorced). Years ago as a kid we would see deer In the mornings In the back yard every once In a while before we headed down the driveway to get on the bus. I'd like to get some deer back In here like we use to have even If It's just for sight seeing. So If I can get some deer closer to the house then I accomplished my goal, If I was to shoot one come bow season that would be a plus.

Yes it would Steve and that's one of my goals. I'd love to take a whitetail on my own property. Something I've never done and it would have been really special last year when I saw that big 5x3 Rob buck so many times. Remember the Bathroom Buck?

Gotta agree with Rob on that one Steve.... I have shot deer about 50 yards inside the woodline from my backyard but never actually in it. I planted it in clover and brassicas but when season rolled around they were pretty much nocturnal and the deer quit hitting the plot. Good luck with it Steve and I wish you nothing but the best... look forward to your pictures this fall!

I almost got a fox in the backyard tonight. We were sitting on the patio watching the chickens (we let them out tonight) and I look back on the mulch pile and see the fox on it eating scraps. The mulch pile is 5 yards to the right of my targets. I get inside and grab 60# Allegiance, throw a slick trick on one of the arrows and get back outside. No need to guess the range, it is exactly 50Yds from the edge of the patio to the targets and the fox was maybe 3 yds behind the targets. I stepped off the patio 3yds and lined up the 50yd pin and ........missed LOL. He was fullfrontal and I aimed right below his chin. I missed to the left. I thought I might have grazed him, it was that close, but don't know for sure. Still haven't found arrow, blood or fox  .

I have had deer eating the honesuckle outside my bedroom window, 10 yds maybe. I wonder if my screen on that window is a shoot through screen?

Good stuff Bruce, Next time hopefully!! 5 years ago I think It was my dads wife shot a bear In their yard with here rifle In the morning after my dad had left for work (she said the bear wouldn't leave). She then called the game warden and he came out and told her to put her tag on It being she had a bear tag for bear hunting which wasn't open yet for another 3 weeks. The bear dressed out at 375lbs and It's skull measured out at 20 12/16. It was a hog of a bear.
