I'd focus on mineral sites right now and in another two months or so place the camera over some corn.
Speaking of mineral sites... and my lack of knowledge.. So MonsterRaxx and like Whitetail Institute's 30-06 when setting up just clear a 3'x3' area to bare dirt and pour on top? Or do you want it to be elevated, or is the end goal for the mineral to leech into the soil? Should this remain moist or will rain ruin the site? Just looking for some general info, it seems to be on everyone's list. Thanks.
I try to dig it out a bit so the water sits in the mineral hole as they really hammer it when water is present. Leeching in the soil works but my favorite is dumping it on stumps.
Get a 50lb bag of Trace Mineral and a bag dicalcium phosphate. Cheapest way to build a mineral lick. http://fw.ky.gov/mineral.asp
1 mineral sites 2 water holes 3 select food plots, clover my fav with easy access like being able to drive right up to the cam 4 use cams in plot mode to find where deer you are going to hunt enters the food plots during the first week of the season. For me.. stay off trails or areas you are trying to kill the deer at The easiest deer to hunt is the one that does not know he is being hunted. If you must trail cam put them where you dont or cant hunt if you push a buck out maybe he will move into your kill spot. Use black flash cams you will tip off less deer to your cams locations to me it's just like bowhunting every time into your stand the less deer your likely to see... kind of a first time in deal your odds are always best, because we stink and mature deer notice everything new in there home just like we do if you found a wrench on your kitchen floor when you get home from work. I grew up near dog training field type hunting dogs and there is no fooling a dogs nose and a deer has a larger one everything your shoe, pants touch to the breath you breath pours out scent that travels for a long way that a deer can pick up day or night for weeks after you have been there. You can keep your woods clean by staying out of it but if your next door neighbors are stinky and hunting all over the place the big ones stay in the beds until after dark and you wont get a chance, so the best time to hunt is the first week the season opens but most guys have already moved the mature deer out or made the deer move at night by being sloppy mineral lick watering hole food plot success priceless
