    It's really important.

    Under-rated even.

low with double lungs and this is why. if you go for the heart and are a little off you will stick the shoulder and if you dont aim low then they can duck your shot. this to me is the best spot on a broadside shot. you see pro's hitting the shoulder because with the new technology out there (speed and KE) they can take a shot and drill it in the heart. i still wouldn't try it though even with my new carnage.

To answer your question.....it's different, almost every shot/animal.

So many things come into play:

    Shot angle
    Height of hunter
    Alert animal?
    Which animal?
    etc...
    etc...
    etc...

Well don't go off the Outdoor Channel for shot placement, cause just about every shot I have seen is piss poor. The gut shoot them and say, "I nailed him, he's not going far!" Then they show them "finding" the deer (with all the grass/crops matted down in a perfect circle around it), and its pitch black out. I watch the Outdoor Channel when I want to see big bucks, not when I want to pick up pointers :lmao:

Yeah I have noticed them finding deer at night that 'didn't run far'. I find that amusing also, glad to know that I'm not the only one that notices that. But also in the back of my mind I know that there's a reason there on there and we aren't (quite possibly a lucky break or knowing the right people) haha
But I was just seeing what y'all thought about this because I've heard a lot of opinions from many respectable hunters

This is the strategy I use. And thanks for clarifying because it's always been successful for me but I always wondered why I didnt see many pro's doing it. But youve just brought to mind the difference in the price of my bow and the price of theirs (equating to speed) and why they can shoot shoulder and I can't. Haha

A good rule is to aim for the opposite side shoulder/leg when it puts the arrow through both lungs. If there is no opposite side shoulder/leg trajectory that puts the arrow through lungs, then there shouldn't be a shot. ie.) head, frontal, femoral...

So on an absolute broadside shot, does this mean shooting the near shoulder? Or does this only apply to angle shots?

So if shot accurately, this ensures a double lung?

I couldn't have said it better Rob!!

Neck shots, frontal shots, head shots, and/or intentionally trying to shoot through the shoulder (few seem to know where the bone really is) Any of those are High Risk and IMO Stupid shots.

The Goal should be putting an arrow through both lungs, or not to shoot at all.

    There really is no debate.
Shots that pass thru the heart/lungs are acceptable.

aim small miss small.... The key for me is to isolate a very specific area in the center of the lungs. That way an inch high or inch low - still a dead deer!

    Texas Heart Shot Baby!

But for real I like the low double lung broadside shot. (Just haven't gotten it yet)
