What is Concealed Carry???!! It's better to go with a smaller gun that you will actually carry than have a large gun that you leave at home. If there were such a thing as concealed carry here... I'd rather go with something bigger than a .380 but to each their own. Learn to really shoot the thing and go with good cartridges and you should be fine.
Glock 27is a great ccw but not everyone can shoot them. It would be one of my picks if I was looking for one.
I carry a LCP everywhere i go. I did get a clip extension for it which makes it much more comfortable
The real confusion lies between comfort and power. Sure, the .380 is generally a smaller frame, but not what I want in my hands with my life on the line. I never want to draw on anyone, ever, but if the gun comes out, I want the fight stopped as quickly as possible. In an actual fight, I would prefer to pull a howitzer out of my holster. All of this is my own opinion. If you can hit the mark time after time with a small caliber during a gun fight, more power to you. When the guns come out and the tunnel vision starts, I want something that will do great amounts of damage with each and every hit. Stopping the threat should be your biggest concern.
Most of the times, firepower discussions and their ensuing doctrinal beliefs about "bigger being better" -- while somewhat true -- are pure conjecture. Case in point: When I was purchasing my Bersa 380CC, the stupid employee behind the counter attempted to make a snide remark about the caliber I had chosen... something to the effect that he could take a magazine-full of rounds to the chest and keep coming at me. I told him I would go find an attorney, legally draw up the paperwork, and sign my house over to him if I could empty the gun into this chest dead center mass at 15 feet and he survived to inherit it. Stupid offering (because of the legal ramifications of kiling someone, not me being worried about losing the bet...), but he got the point. People love to talk down any caliber below a .40-anything but I don't know any who're willing to take one to the chest... This isn't directed at ANYone above... I've just heard it all too many times. When thinking CC, remember the age-old mantra of the CC crowd that's undeniable and been proven correct so many times it's inarguable at this point to me: A .380 on your person beats a .40-anything in your truck any day.
Good post Greg. My .45 cal gets left at home for my Ruger LCP .380 auto. Can't even tell its there and it will put some good sized holes into someone in a hurry.
I really wish someone made a super reliable pocket sized 9mm that was drop dead sexy. I almost bought a Kimber Solo CDP when I was shopping for my first pistol a couple months ago, it was quite a looker and felt fantastic, plus it was quite a bit smaller than the Glock 26. Then I read the reviews on how unreliable and picky they were on ammo. I think if someone made something that had slick lines and that caught the eye like this yet was super reliable.......people would snap them up pretty quick.
Greg, I can agree with what you said. Pretty much all center fire round is capable of stopping a human target. The .22 is one of the deadliest rounds because the person hit doesn't realize the damage done. The point I want to make is stopping the fight. That is the whole idea behind defensive carry. There is nothing sexy about it and the sole reason is to protect your life. I have always been told to carry the largest caliber you are comfortable with. I don't have a problem with any certain caliber or gun, I just think the idea of CCW is missed. It is strictly a last ditch effort when your life is in danger. I am not combat trained so I want each round to do maximum damage. On a side note, i would also suggest actually firing the 'people stopper' rounds that you carry. Granted, most gun fights occur at near point blank range, it is best to know your ammo with the gun you intend to save your life.
Go to the Website Gun Directory... They have reviews on all guns and the SOLO is not a good gun for people with big hands. If you have big hands a tight or firm grip the hand will come in contact with the magazine release and the magazine will eject partially of fully. In my opinion it's more for women than men or men with small hands.
To clarify my post... For those who wish to have a larg-bore caliber on your person for self defense, I agree with you to the extent that if given a CHOICE -- and all things being EQUAL, that I'll take the larger caliber every time. EVERY time. I just know WAY too many people who have had delusions of grandeur that they'll carry a .40-something with them for a CC gun -- and they may... for a very shorty while. But to truly be effective carrying, you need to LIVE it -- not just carry for the first few weeks, or perhaps months. MOST of the people I know who pick a .40-something to carry do just that... they carry for a couple months, and then it gets too big, too cumbersome, too much of a hassle... too EVERYTHING. That's why I say (and almost ALL the CC crowd... e.g., read DIE-HARD CC crowd) a .380 on your person is better than a .40-anything in your truck. We've seen it... ALL the time. You may be the exception... and if you are, God bless... Hope you are. But the numbers aren't in the average person's favor. It just becomes a paperweight back at home with the rare exception of a few trips to the range every so often, or something stowed beneath a seat in your vehicle. Hope that makes some sense.
Thanks for the replies guys, Shot a plethora of guns yesterday, and i still like the lightness and size of the PK380.
