Walking to my stand, kicked up a big buck, think it was a 10 pointer who is living on the land.....Anyhoo, get up in my stand, hour-ish rolls by, finally see something within shooting range, this doe starts coming down the hill straight at me, wait wait wait wait ,she gets to 22 yards turns broadside, I pull back, put the 20y pin on her and let it fly, next thing i know she turns and trots off 5 more yards, like nothing happened, staring me down like its her job though. Eh what just happened?!?!?!?!. Halfway through nocing another arrow she blows at me, staring at me the entire time, by now I'm pretty mad (at myself because i should have tagged her and been eating loin right now). So she's gone a little further by this point and is at 35 yards. NBD, practice up to 50, put the 30-40 yard pins on her shoulder and fire away, she ducks it. Blows 3 more times and gets out of there, goes another 30 yards blows 2 more times. Turns out the first shot went through a pretty good branch. Kicking myself pretty hard right now. On the plus side I rattled in my first buck, which happened to be my target buck for this year, on the down side, he was a 130 in 9 pointer, the key word is was. He is completely busted off on his left side now. So that was my day. FML Lol
until recently, The only "good" buck I ever saw were ones I knew nothing about. There are plenty of good bucks that will be rutting over the next couple weeks. Don't worry too much. It's snowing!!
Just to be clear….You didn't bust off his antlers with an arrow?, you just witnessed a shooter buck, but he was defective. Seeing him with a busted set would suck….Actually shooting and breaking them off would be horrific. Any idea why you missed the 20yd? Maybe small branch or something? Or just a simple case of I missed. Hope you get the big one next time out.
Michi "Turns out the first shot went through a pretty good branch. Kicking myself pretty hard right now." Thats him, as an entirety. As of today his entire left side was snapped off right the g2.
That sucks you didn't put that doe down, but on the other hand I'm sure that was funny. I've never seen a deer stare at someone and blow at them. I probably would of laughed like WTF? Keep at it. It will all pay off soon.
Oh well it happens....check your equipment and go get that big SOB that broke off your target bucks antler. 0.o
