I have a Bear Lights Out bow, with a 70 lb DW and a 30" DL. I have a 3 pin sight on it and when I have the top pin at 20, I can't have a 30 yard pin because the pins touch. I have the same problem for my 40 yard pin. If I set them as close together as possible (touching), I have a 20, 35, and 45 yard pin. I switched from a WB to a Ripcord Code Red, then I ran into this problem. I wouldn't have thought that switching rest would change things THAT much, should it? I have paper tuned the bow as best as I could (fletched arrow, bullet hole with fletchings centered in hole). Does anyone else have the same thing happening on their bow?
Ever since I started shooting bows faster than 250fps I did away with my 20 yard pin for that reason. They may not have been touching but it was real close so now I set my first pin to 25yrds and i'm good to 33 yrds my second is set at 40 my third at 50 I just compensate and shoot slightly low with the 40 pin at 35 and up slightly high with first pin 35 to 30. Not ideal for tournament shooting but it works for getting in the kill zone. so I guess its basically the same as yours is set up now but I got used to it and like having one pin to 33yrds which is about as far as Ill shoot at an animal
On another note if you still want a 20 30 40 pin I dont know how your sight is but did you look into a duel track sight that allows you to have close to zero pin gap
Just for Sh!ts and giggles slide your top and bottom pin out of the way and see how your 30 yard pin shoots at 20 and 40 , you may just be happy with a single pin , what size pins do you have ?
Currently, I have my pins at 20, 40, and 50. I changed them to that for practicing in the summer and for the G2G, but for hunting I was wanting to change them back to 20, 30, and 40. I have a Viper sight, which does not have the dual track for the pins, just the single. The sight pins are .019", which I like pretty well.
I have a Bear Strike and when i crank my poundage up that high i run into the same problem. I would sight in at 25yrds. If you catch a deer at 30-35 the drop should only be an inch or 2 and might even come in handy for if they dip as they try and evade your arrow. Just play around with it a little and see what serves you the best and stick with that. We can all throw our opinions out there but you're the one in the stand pulling the trigger on that release and it comes down to what you feel comfortable with.
With my Carnage I use my 1st pin 0-34 yard. I have it sighted at 20 but it shoots bullet holes out to 34. Then 40, 50, 60, 70 with the other 4 pins. There is also one way to get your sight pins at 20, 30, 40. Try using a heavier arrow. It might be worth it.
I thought about that, but I recently just got a dozen new arrows. And a broke college kid cant just be throwing money around lol
I have a true glow sight on my PSE Deer Hunter (I am still trying to find out info on) It has 70lb limbs and dual big cams. I have yet to find another one anywhere like it. I traded another PSE Deer Hunter for it that had the small cam wheels and 60lb limbs. My old one had a pretty big gap between the pins. If my sight had a single track on it I would have to do what you guys have had to do. The pin mounts would not be thin enough to set them at 20, 30, 40, 50, 70. I don't plan on shooting a deer out past 50. I just like being able to hit a target at 70+ yards. My pin mounts overlap now. They get closer when I crank the poundage up a turn on each limb. I keep it where it is because I like to shoot more than 40 shots at a time. I can't wait to chrono this bow. Considering I have less than $100 in the whole set up I am going to wait until next season to buy a Hoyt or Bowtech. Anyways, This is a common problem with other people that I have talked to. As fast as these new bows are getting it seems we will eventually only need one sight pin from 0-50yd and another from 50-100yd.
Due to some spine issues I recently (like this morning) increased my draw length and weight. With this increase my 20 and thirty pin basically fused. i took the 25 approach and have found out that i need to shoot 3" low at 20 and 3" high at 30.
If possible, extend your sight out. This will open your pin gap. ,Heck, I am shooting 260fps and have a 28" draw length and I have my pins at 23,28,33,38 and 43. I am also using.019 pins.
I never thought about that, I will have to see if I can or not. If I can't, I will just have to do the 25, 40, and 50 pin.
What about 26-29 and 36-39 and 46-49? I set my pins to my tree stands-to-trails. Has worked out good for me over the past few years.
switchback XT @ 268 fps with a spot hogg hogg-it hunter wrapped with all .019 green pins. set at 20,30,40,50
