Alright, I was running low on my ACCs, and so I decided to try something different since I got a deal I couldn't pass up on two dozen CAAs brand new uncut with all inserts, pin nock adapter, and pin nocks. Now, I've heard good and bad things about pin nocks, but I've never experienced using them first hand. I haven't even had the shafts cut, yet, but I'm already debating just switching to uni-bushing and g-nocks like I was shooting in my ACCs. The pin nocks just seem so little, and fragile. I've been reading up a little, and I guess the pin nock adapter needs shimmed to press fit into .246" standard carbon shafts? I tested, and sure enough the adapter slides freely in and out of the shaft on its own. I don't like the fact that I would have to shim the adapter body to get it to press fit in.

Anyways, those of you who have experience with pin nocks, what do you like/dislike about them? How do they compare to the uni/g-nock setups?

Matt, you have the 400s right? Your inside diameter should be .232, not .246, right? Either way, for that "shim," you should bag'em. Personally, I liked the protection of the pin nocks, I field checked a few.:d That said, I didn't like to hunt with them, the stock actual nocks popped off too easy. I didn't know that Bohning made pin nocks and normally I use their "Double Lock Nocks" in my standard .246 hunting arrows. In my 22 series, I use a 2213 Super Uni with the same nock. Not the protection that you get in a pin nock, but some protection just the same. I don't have any experience with G-nocks. But if you liked them on you accs, I would make them work on the CAAs.

Yep, .232, my bad. I don't really care too much about target. I want to keep everything the same hunting/target, and well I can see your thoughts on hunting durability. I will just replace them with uni/g-nock setup most likely. It's what I like and am comfortable with.

Sounds like a plan. IF I were planning on shooting target and jamming arrows in tight spots contiuously, I'd be shooting the pin nocks. I think it's smart to stay with what ya have been working with.

I have experience with Mckinney pin nocks and adapters. I like them and, although I didn't deer hunt with this particular arrow, I have hunted small game and varmints. I would have no problem hunting deer with it, though, and it is the arrow I have set my buddy up to hunt deer with.

As far as the adapter goes, they are a tiny bit loose but I insert them using hot glue (in case I need to remove them) and that seems to make for a tight fit. I have no problem with off center adapters either. I turn them as I put them in and that seems to even things out.

I'm shooting Bohning pin nocks on my Victory arrows... used them all last year with great success. The only time I didn't use them was when I shot my home-made lighted nocks, which I'll be making a bunch more of for this year.

With the exception of this past indoor season (I tried some 2712's this year) I have shot pin nocks exclusively for going on 4 years now for everything from hunting, 3D, indoor, field archery, etc. I love them, they are either perfect or broke, none of that going bad stuff that I have seen with G nocks where they look fine but shoot like crap. They also protect the back of your carbon like I've never seen. I've got literally an entire bucket of arrows that I destroyed shooting G nocks, super nocks, and regular nocks before going to pins. I have smashed lots of pin nocks, and pins, but I look at them as a disposable component and carry an extra dozen pins and bag of 100 nocks right in my quiver. I usually go through a bag of 100 pin nocks each year and just plan on it, but I've only wrecked a small handful of shafts since switching to them.

I'm still up in the air on these. I got a bunch included with my arrows, so I may just try the GT ones for now. If not, I'll move to the Bohning, and if that doesn't pan out, then I'll opt for the Uni's and G-nocks.

Another plus on the bohnings Matt is the availability of more colors.

I just figured you'd want yellow or something to blend in with a vegas face.

Ben, I haven't. I'm on Victory Archery's pro staff, and that's the component that they couple with their arrows and I just fell into using them.

RJ made a bunch of great points and I agree completely; I would have had two more robin hoods over the last couple days of getting back in the groove shooting (later in the year, I won't even shoot at the same spot, but I'm trying to get confident and back in the groove after a couple months off) or at the very least have a couple destroyed shafts on my hands.

It's ironic that you mention the Victory thing. I stumbled apon them over the weekend and ordered two dozen of the Victory VForce V1 300 Shafts to setup for hunting. I have been a Gold tip supporter from the jump, but I just can't settle in on a hunting shaft from GT. On paper, the Victorys look like what I have been looking for.

I believe they're using GT's old supplier (don't quote me on this). A lot of people are very happy with them, while GT products are now made in Mexico I believe, so who knows:confused:

Don't get me wrong, at this point if I needed one shaft to do it all, without question it's the Gold Tip Ultralight 22 series. Right now, they are just a bit hard to aquire and don't make up into a heavy enough hunting arrow for me. Anytime that I want to come in 417 grains or less, they are in my quiver. Solid shaft. I really like them for 3D. 331 grains flying 329 fps.

From what I've read, Victory is actually the company that used to make Gold Tips, as well as some others, and then started marketing them under their own label. RJ might be able to verify that as he keeps up on the arrow market a lot more than I do; for some reason I've just never got into the whole behind-the-scenes scoop on arrows. It's never been that exciting to me.

I've found that pretty much all the top-of-the-line arrow mfgrs are making good stuff: I've shot CE Maximas, Easton A/C/Cs, Gold Tip XT Hunters and now Victory VForces and they're all good stuff.

Yeah, that's what I heard, and that GT arrows are now manufactured in Mexico (but many arrows are manufactured out of the U.S., so I doubt that alone can be a negative point, except for I prefer supporting the U.S.).

I don't really know all the details, but to my knowledge, both Victory and Gold Tip are being manufactured in Mexico. I know that Victory is actually using the facility in Mexico that Gold Tip was previously using about 3 years ago. I don't believe either company (I could be wrong) actually own the manufacturing facility though that actually makes the carbon shafts.

With that said, I do know that Gold Tip is designing, batch sorting, and inspecting/testing all arrows in their Utah facility. I don't know anything about where Victory does this piece, so I won't comment on it. Neither company is actually manufacturing in the US though, I know that for sure.

Ben - Pro 22's are currently in stock at Lancaster, mine shipped today. Everywhere else is on backorder that I know of.
