Hey Guys. I've been thinking of customizing my own arrows by putting wraps on them. For those of you who have done this, how much weight does it add and if it does, is the weight significant? Also are they difficult to apply? Do you clean your shafts with anything such as acetone or rubbing alcohol? Does this help or hurt the fletching, or is it indifferent (what I mean is will it affect how you vanes stay on the shaft)? Feel free to add any information that I may have left out. Thanks!
check out http://www.onestringer.com/ he has all the info you should need. I don't think the weight is of significance in hunting situations at all. I use.........crap I can't think of the name right now but something along the lines of degenerated or something like this. It will clean them pretty dang good as I read somewhere do not use acetone on your arrows. It may have been the carbon express arrows website.
Yep, Onestringer is who I get my wraps from, and they are ridiculously easy to put on. The wrap itself adds right at 1 grain per inch, so a 5 inch wrap would only add about 5 grains. In my opinion, as long as you have something resembling a decent front-of-center percentage that's not enough to make a difference. Onestringer also sells a protective wrap called "doubledogs". They keep the wraps looking good for a lot longer but I don't use them because I would guess it would add another 5 grains or so. I love using the white wraps with three white blazers. The pic below has Rayzr feathers, which didn't work well at all, but it gives you an idea. It's very easy to see your arrow fly and more importantly, where your arrow hits. Wraps also make for easy refletching. I believe denatured alcohol (is that what you were looking for, Peak?) is what most recommend to really clean an arrow shaft. Honestly, the only time I use the denatured alcohol is when I need to clean the old wrap adhesive off of the arrow shaft. If it's a new shaft a wet, soapy rag, a rinse and a good drying works just fine. Just remember that after you apply the wrap, you need to wipe it down again before you fletch.
Chief, those are Sweeeet!!! I saw those wraps on Onestringers site but they look even better on your arrows. Nice work. This is, most assuredly, something I’ll be doing in the future. -D
If ur gna put wraps on i recomend the shrink on wraps that have the fletchings already attached ive never had a problem with them. but when i used the sticker style wraps and glued fletchings it was a complete disaster. fletchings were falling off left and right
No offense intended, but if you had vanes falling off you weren't doing something right. I fletch my own using wraps and mine don't come off. They stay on even when I end up having to rip them through a bag target that I've buried the fletching in. The NAP Quickfletch fletchings are quick and easy, but they don't allow you any personalization what-so-ever, and you don't get that feeling of satisfaction that comes with a job well done that you did yourself.
