Heres some pics from my new setup on the archery only public land here on Oahu. It's rare to see them during the day but with these new products I'm using things are looking good. The cam took 637 pics in just 2 days! It's my first time using a cam and I couldn't be more excited!
Very Nice. The trick is to draw them out during the day. Been working on 40 acres to get more successful with them. Try to find out where their bedding. Heavy, heavy cover. In the shade and maybe near water.
Yeah, the cover they are in is ridiculous. Its a bamboo forest thats almost impossible to walk through so I set everything up right on the edge of the bamboo and water. The same day I set it up they were chowing on the corn. With the help of some attractants I think I am doing alright for my first setup like this. I cant get over those piglets in your pic. I just want to try and catch em'.
You guys can't shoot them at night? I have a light that attaches to my bow that I use for bowfishing but it was made for hogs. I would think that shooting at night would be a blast. Hawaii and Florida sound pretty good right about now. When can we come down?
Haha. Come on out anytime! We can't hunt here at night but I think I should be able to bag one anyways. Actually, now that I think about it, the last two days they have been at my feeder at this time (1347 hawaii time). What the heck am I doing at home. Maybe tomorrow!
Those piglets showed up one week then disappeared. We have a couple larger ones though. If they pickup your scent they may not come back for days. Sometimes the best time to hunt a new area is the first time. They will pattern YOU. The other problem with them living in heavy foliage is having to blood trail them into it after the shot.
You can only hunt hogs in FL on private land with a light and you need a license. They spook real easy and i think it would still be hard to get a shot off on them.
On this tree I put on some Boarmasters Texas T Sticky Sweet just to get the scent lingering and see how they would act. Little did I know they would tear the tree up and rub all over it!
