Well, let me first start off by thanking my good friend Troy & his family, for once again inviting me into his home for another week of elk hunting and hanging out. I am so very grateful. Without getting into much details, I had my opportunities to put a bull on the ground, but I just did not get the job done. Plain & simple. There were plenty of elk to be found despite some quick changing weather that provided some difficulty in getting the animals up & active. A few of the bulls were some fine trophies. As usual here are some beautiful pix of northern Idaho. Along with a photo of a doe with no tail. NONE, no stub, nothing.
As grandaddy use to say "Sometimes you eat the elk and sometimes the elk eats you." Enjoyed the scenery and all the best next time.
Great pictures !! I was really hoping this would be your year to shoot an elk. You have been so close the last couple years. A guy puts too much pressure on himself trying to put the first one down just like anything else in life. When it happens for you... which it will... it will all be worth it !! Tim
Nice photos Ryan, I was sure rooting to see you behind a big Bull in one of them. I would sure like to get out there some day.
Yeah what a week, I dont even want to get into all the details this year either. Looking back over the week I honestly can say I don't know how those big bulls managed to escape death a couple times. Almost too much to list and talk about. We hit it hard and had our chances. We both had big mature herd bulls (6x6s) in the brush very close. We were very aggressive and passed up several cows in close, I had 5 different cows at 5 yards or less in the wide open broadside, got greedy, wanting to get the big boy I guess! Just how it goes I reckon when your trying to kill the king of the mountain. Sometimes you win but most of the time with a herd bull you lose. Good times as always though with Ryan.
Ryan thanks for sharing! Glad you and Troy had a great time. I give it one more year then I'll bet your packing your things and moving out
Ryan and Troy, Sharing the time is truly what it's about. Killing an elk is icing on the cake! Thanks for sharing, both of you! Awesome!
Great Pics, as many has said thanks for sharing. I bet there are many who would have liked to have been in either one of your shoes, even thou you didn't score on an animal. Congrats on the fellowship and the scenary
