I went on a quick 2-day backpacking trip this weekend in the Ouachita Wilderness in southeastern Oklahoma. It was some beautiful country. I wasn't aware that Oklahoma could produce such awesome scenery We hiked 7 miles on Saturday, and gained 1,000 feet. Sunday we hiked 6 miles back down the mountain and made the drive back home. It was a fun little trip.....Enjoy the pics! A group shot...all the people that went along. I am toward the middle with a blue shirt and white pants. I am packed up and ready to roll. The lake we camped next to the first night. Kinda grainy because I had to zoom in, but it's a bald eagle on the other side of the lake. Scenery shots A little stream where we stopped to eat lunch the first day. Fresh water. Strait from the stream, through the Katadyn filter, into my water bottle:d Crossing that stream...yes, the water was freezing. Our line of packers Day 2 campsite By the time we reached the bottom, that 13 miles had me spent. Apparently I was tired on the way home :d Hope you enjoyed fellas And I'm not sure why some pics are smaller than others:computer:
Thanks for sharing the pictures. I have seen a few bald eagles in the wild. They are an incredible sight to see soaring in the air. My most recent encounter with a bald eagle was on the 9th of February while out shed hunting. It was definitely in search of some food and it spotted me right in the middle of the cornfield. It immediately turned and disappeared. Sweet sight nonetheless. Looks like you guys had a great trip!
Next time, roll your sleeping bag up tighter, and stuff it in your pack. Keep everything as close to your pack as possible. It will save you quite a bit of strain. You may not notice it, but it helps a lot.
I would have but I was rolling with a 3400 cu in pack (I'm a minimalist:d). My stuff sack for my sleeping bag went missing so I just had to roll it up old school style. I know it would have been better if I had it in my pack, but it wasn't a big deal to me....it wasn't THAT long of a walk.:d:d
That looked like you had a great time. Any time out in the woods is time well spent. Is it me, or is it just that warm out there, that several of you were wearing sandals? It's 20 degrees here, and I my brain can't handle that temp. difference. thanks for the pics.
