The other day I saw two nice longbeards in my yard with 15-20 hens... Nice big Toms, their beards were thick and dragging on the ground as they walked. This morning I looked out the back window to see this group... Figured I'd take some photos for you guys Double beard? Little early in the year for this eh???? And yes, there was a hen underneath him. Then this ugly bird made another appearance
Those are some great shots Scott When are you gonna beat your horn porn addiction and go chase on of those thunderchickens with your bow  :d
Yeah, I'm with BM, Buck-a-roo. That double beard should be getting an arrow. But alas, turkeys don't have antlers. :D And even for the betterment of society, kill that last one, would ya?!?!
BUT, the real question is, are turkey antlers the same size as whitetail antlers, so it is well out of proportion to the rest of their bodies? My theory says, they will just have super strong necks to support the extra weight. :D
2 things on this thread... 1.) - I'm jealous.. no birds like that in my backyard...or where I have hunting access, for that matter. *sigh* Maybe some day, ut not for now. 2.) - Bols.. if their necks were big enough to hold up a deer-sized rack, they'd look like bloodcrick's pic. I don't know if there would be a hunting season needed to hunt something that ugly. :d Either that or we'd be overrun with them, because noone would want to hang something that looked like that on the wall. I keed.. well, mostly. That IS one ugly pic. Although the wings would be big enough to feed a family of 4...
No one has yet to answer my question.... Should they be mounting each other like that already? I really don't know much about these so called turkey...
Breeding? I'd bet they are like whitetails, if the hen will let them.... Seems early to me Scott, I'd hate to think she's laying already, for that it is early. Course, they know better than anything and nature seems to do just fine without theory. Maybe it's a sign to an early spring, let's hope. And that last picture has huge spurs, oh wait, that's fat fingers. :d
It's a little early for them to be mating it seems, but not really that early. A lot of the mating occurs in the first 2-3 weeks of April, but carries over into May too. Like Rob said, if the hens are ready so are the toms. They only get to have fun once a year so they're taking advantage of every chance they can get!
