I dont know what the heck is going on but Im either picking up a bad habit or my draw length is too short. It started this winter and got proggressively worse. When I am at full draw on my target and Im floating the pin I get real shaky and cant keep the pin on the circle. Then when it comes down to squeezing the trigger the arm holding the bow seems to flinch. I dont know what it is but Im hoping its do to a short draw length. It was set up for me when I was 14 or 15 and now Im 20 and have grown quite a bit. My arm is bent pretty hard when Im shooting. The draw weight isnt too hard so I dont know what it is. Hopefully I can fix whatever it is before I head out to NY for whitetails. If it is me, what can I do to keep myself from doing that?
I don't know for sure, but maybe "target panic"??? Just a thought. We'll see what some more experienced guys think. All the Best.
Could be a combination of both. First thing to do is get the bow set up with the correct draw length. Make the bow fit you. Then work on the rest.
When you say "flinch" that has target panic all over it. I had it so bad that I would send an arrow downrange before even getting anywhere close to the bullseye. I couldn't even control whether or not to shoot. Im about to give an extreme example but you will get my point. I could have my dog sit out in the yard and if I drew down on her I'd be afraid of shooting her. Not a release malfunction, not a d-loop breaking, but me not being able to control whether or not I activated my release. Like I said...extreme example but thats how bad I had it. AND no...I never tested it because I know what would have happened.. I've improved since but I'm not totally cured. Shooting isn't as fun as it used to be for me but I've made tremendous improvements. I wouldn't wish TP on my worst enemies. Anyway, check your bow out first. If you do think you're experiencing TP...do a search on google. There has been plenty written about it. Good luck!
Thanks guys, I hope it isnt target panic. Ill keep practicing though. Im not missing the taget at all and im still grouping good. Its just that little twitch every now and then that has me conserned.
Like finch said, it takes a lot of the fun out, but there's no fun in missing where your aiming either... I used to draw back and shoot, I could hit where I was aiming, but I wanted to get better, so after SEVERAL threads and pics of my form, Tfox being my greatest attribute, really got my form in shape, and now, I go through a "process" everytime I draw my bow, It isn't all was fun, but if done correctly, you'll hit where you aim. That was my biggest problem, Just too many inconsistencies in my form. I also had to add 1/2" to my draw length to achieve the form I needed.
To me it sounds like a bow that is setup incorrectly and you are having problems aiming with it.BUT,this seems to also be causing a panic mode when you get on or close to the spot and then you are experiencing what many of us have had and still have (kinda like an alcoholic, never get over it,just get sober but it is always there) The dreaded target panic. Get a bow that fits you pronto, then just relax and let the aim happen. You say your arm is bent, this is what causes the shaking. If you can get the bow arm extended so you can get bone to bone contact, this settles the pin down and allows it to float. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNenHKKSKZI
Seems like most said you were too short back then.Have you grown since then or was you just able to get your body into the position a couple of us were trying to get you to. I am glad I was able to help.
This was with broadheads at 20yrds this morning. Makes ya wonder. When this happens to me, it's telling me that I'm not focused. I have this happen rarely, but when it does it freaks me out because I'm used to shooting well.
