So, what does picketing accomplish for a strike?

Is mainly a protest? Or is it mainly about intimidaton, influence and control? Isn't this covered under RICO?

I hear my father in law, a hardcore carpenter union guy retired, brag that back in the day, so and so better not cross, or this and this is going to happen to them? Or they cut off a friendship with so and so for crossing. Or I see coaltrucks from back in the day with smashed out windows from rocks being hurled from the picket line.

I can't speak for the types of picketing you are talking about, but the ones I have seen were usually informational pickets to bring attention to an alleged problem or alleged unjustice.

Freedom of speech in most cases. But in every group there are those who take it too far.

So with folks crossing the picket line, everyone would agree, no harm should come to folks crossing?

People can get information from a lot of places.

    I see them as intimidation.

I have to agree. If you want to protest, you can go straight to the company HQ, but it seems the popular place to picket is right at the entrance of the job site in question. Where workers have to walk thru. Thats clearly intimidation, influence and control.

To be fair the above group had to take many bathroom break for those not on floomax, so there were gaps in this intimidating force:lol:

Never seen a picket like those germ, expect on the tube.

But the ones I have seen, the picketers were armed to the hilt. Even the state police with thier small force of 20 troopers wasn't about to get in the middle of this. They went back to thier squad cars.

I saw it get REALLY nasty in Charleston, when I lived there (dock workers).

I knew some guys who were intimidated by the picketers. These weren't "locals", either.

Some of you all live in states that are "pro employee". Well Virginia is "pro business". If you want to strike, prepare to be terminated. :)

Don't know of any picket lines going right now. But stay tuned, I might need to make the 12 hour drive to pull me out.

I guess the million man march is akin to a picket line. Its an hour away or more, but we could have fun with it.

I was at a rally of about 8 -10K people yesterday. We marched right up to the governor's office.

(well, we rallied, then marched, then rallied a bit, then waited in lines forever and a day to get into the capitol.... and then we found out the Gov. ditched us...)

    :D

There's a big difference between protesting and picketing, in my opinion.

Big is talking about Picketing and others are talking about protesting. I believe a lot of picket lines are all about intimidation and control, while protesting is all about expressing an opinion and an idea.

Yeah, Dan. But, the people doing the picketing will tell you they're really just protesting.

Reminds me of the guy at the head shop, selling water bongs with that teensie pouch of tobacco, attached.

    Sure, mister!:D

Actually it depends on the people leading the protest or picketing IMO. I have seen both of them go sour.
