I've been looking at getting a camera to start filming myself for awhile and today I finally picked one up. Got a Canon vixia hf s21 off ebay for what I guess is decent price from other places I looked. Anyway I've never really messed with one much and I know I'll need a tree arm and probably extra battery but is there anything else that anyhody would suggest. I'm not looking to go real crazy right now on accessories, just looking for suggestions. Thanks guys in advance, I'm looking forward to playing around with this thing. Hopefully its a decent cam.

Hey JRK, you'll need a fluid head of some sort to mount to your camera arm and tripod when you eventually get one. Manfrotto makes a lot of nice fluid heads that would be a good starting spot for you. Also if you can find a remote of any sorts that will be huge. It's a pain trying to film without a remote for panning in and out. It makes filming a ton easier and also makes for smoother shot if you are hands off your camera. Just a couple things to get ya started. Hope that helps.

Hey jrk_indle84, congrats on the new camera! My old camera was similar but this one has a LANC imput from the looks of it. My suggestions are:
You gotta start with a camera arm or tripod(depending on where you plan to hunt). There are some inexpensive ones out there, like the Lone Wolf Strongarm, 3rd Arm, or Muddy. Some may require you to get a pan head or if you choose, you can convert the arm to accept a fluid head. I would recommend a fluid head for smoother panning and control. Manfrotto makes some great heads for the money. I recommend the 128rc or 701 heads. I also recommend getting a lanc controlled wired remote that would mount onto your fluid head pan handle. I like Varizoom Stealth VZ. There are others out there.

The only other things you would need are a backpack to carry your stuff, maybe a shotgun mic from improved audio down the road, and of course a spare battery like you mentioned. Get the longest life battery you can. Cold weather isn't fair on battery life.

    Good Luck!

It's a great camera. I actually use the same camera. Fluid head and arm would be your first purchase. The next I would recommend would be a mic and lanc remote.

Thanks fellas. I actually just got it in mail today and have been playing with it. I've been looking at some of the stuff that's been mentioned so that makes me feel like I'm at least of right track ha. Now I just wanna try it out.
