Bought a brand spanking new F-150 XLT FX4 in June 2016 with the 3.5l Ecoboost; I absolutely loved that engine. But, 137 out of 246 days of ownership in repair, Ford finally bought it back. They absolutely screwed me, and I lost a good chunk of change on the deal. This was the first and last Ford I'll ever own and do not trust their product or customer service. I went looking at new a Chevrolet/GMC, but couldn't bring myself to spend $40k+ on a stinking truck. Found a 2013 Silverado with 38k miles and have been happy ever since. I don't hate Dodge, but I feel they are cheap looking, may not be the case, but I just don't like them. I've heard great things about the Tundra, short of the gas consumption.
It happens with all brands. That happened to me with a new Chevy Silverado. I bought a new 20012 Ford Lariat and traded it on a new 2015 Lariat and have had zero problems at all with either one of them. I also like the fact that the aluminum panels wont rust out like nearly every Dodge I see around here. My secretary is finally giving up on Dodge after having the last two rust out within a very few years.
That's why I went back the 2013 body style, I love those trucks and know the engine quite well. You can see plenty of them on the road with 150k+ miles and still sell well on craigslist/dealerships. One of the dealers I went to wouldn't haggle much on a used 14, said he really could let me walk out and sell the truck to the next person; and it really happened too, but, I wasn't 100% into that one. Said he won't keep an F-150 on his lot because no one wants them, or they'll sit forever. I will say, I do not envy you shopping, truck prices are getting crazy and keep going up. Hopefully, my 2013 will be passed down to my 2-year old son when he can drive. Good luck, can't wait to see the new rig.
Absolutely, and had the repair process gone smoother, I may still be in the truck. But I got a bad taste of Ford when I've owned nothing but GM vehicles with no issues. I really am nothing more than a disgruntled customer. I still wish I could take the 3.5l EcoBoost and put it in my Chevy, that would be a perfect truck.
I've been thinking about a truck for some time, but can never justify getting one. I'm not going off road and with the miles on put on my vehicle for daily commute the worse gas mileage is a killer. I can pull a trailer when I need to haul more.
I've had 5 Chevies and 3 Fords but always traded fairly early because of one issue or another. Always said I'd own anything BUT a Dodge. I had a large client buy a Dodge dealership back in 2005 and he convinced me to try a Dodge. I bought a brand new Dodge 1500 4X4 Big Horn with the tow package 2006 model. Most trouble free truck I've ever owned. Only truck I've had long enough to change tires or brakes. LOL! Original transmission but I did have the low reverse mod go out at around 200k. Cost me $500 to fix. I do all my own maintenance and I'm finicky about it as well. I change my own oil, transmission fluid, both pumpkins, brakes - I put new shocks when the old ones got rough and changed out 1 tie rod end. Did have the shop align after the tie rod change. I did have to put a new engine in back in November at 240,901 miles but it wasn't the trucks fault. It came time for an oil change right in the middle of my second tax season 9/15 & 10/15 deadlines and I didn't have a cache of oil or filters. I thought it wouldn't hurt just one time letting the quicky place change it. Well, they put transmission fluid instead of oil in the truck and burnt the engine slap up. I had a new engine put in and they had to reimburse me. Now it would be hard for me to let this truck go. It still looks brand new and has a brand new engine and there's no way I could get the features I have in this truck for less than $40k and it's been paid for since 2006. The first time this truck saw the inside of a shop was Nov 2015 for the low rev mod in the trans, not bad for a high mileage 2006. This is also not an urban cowboy truck, it's usually pulling a bass boat or has an ATV in the back and sometimes both!
