For those who don't know me I work as a technician on the Space Shuttle. Although every once in a while we'll go and work on one of the other orbiters, Shuttle Atlantis is the orbiter that I'm assigned to. Well today was her launch day after a delay of almost a year, and we're going back to the Hubble Space Telescope. This mission was originally cancelled because it was deemed as being too dangerous after the loss of Columbia, but so many people all over the country expressed their view to continue that the government relented. It was supposed to launch last summer but technical issues kept it on the ground. With just a couple of weeks until launch, the main computer on Hubble failed. They postponed the launch until replacement computers could be readied and the astronauts could be trained how to intall them. This has been a long time coming and she finally got off the ground this afternoon.
Someday I'd like to be at the Cape when there is a launch, its been a dream of mine since I was knee high to a bullfrog. You have an awesome job! And that is a very nice pic!!!
Awesome..I remember working in St. Augustine Florida, and going outside and watching the launch when the Challenger Blew up. That was quite the memorable day for many reasons..and none of them being good!
Thats an awesome pic! When I was on my seinor trip two years ago there was a shuttle going off and they wouldn't even let us leave dinner to see it. I was so pissed, that would have been the highlight of my trip...
I couldnt see it because of the clouds But it is an amasing sight to see. The last launch was in march i think and it was getting dark and you could see it going up with the orange sky. That was the best launch I have ever seen.
And they say were just dumb hunters. lol That's incredible I had a chance to see the shuttle launch back in the early nineties it was absolutely incredible and something everyone should see. Thanks for sharing that I love the shuttles and you do have a amazing job.
