I'll steal Justin's idea, but take it the photo route:D I know we have quite a few photographers amongst us. I always like looking at people's EXIF info to see what they're shooting when I can, so I'm curious what everyone has for equipment. I'm currently shooting a Canon 30D with the standard 28-135mm IS USM lens and a basic Canon tripod. I have a Canon A610 for more portable carry. I'm planning to let go of the 28-135 in favor of a solid constant 2.8 lens (most likely the Sigma as I can't justify the Canon 17-55IS), and then I'm PRETTY sure I've convinced myself that when funds are right, I might grab a Canon 300mm/F4 with a 1.4x TC for wildlife (I really want this lens ASAP since I want to get my gear in the field with me more when hunting).
Nikon D3100 w/18-200 AF-S VR Lens. Kinda wish I would've held out and got something a little bigger like a D7000. The bigger body just feels better in your hand. The 3100 is so dang small I have a hard time holding it very still, and my hand gets tired b/c I'm only using 4 fingers to hold it. For awhile I was shooting with an 18-70mm F2.8 Tamron lens, but I sold it a few months ago. Right about now I'm wishing I still had it. The 18-200 is nice, but it's slow on auto-focus and heavy to carry around. I'm in the market for either a 35mm or 50mm prime lens which will probably be my next purchase. Not sure what I'm going to do from here with the still cameras. Either sell my D3100 body that I just got a month ago and pick up a D7000 or stick it out and spend the money on something else - like refinishing my kitchen floors. I know that would make my wife happy.
I shoot a Nikon D300 with a Nikon 200-400 VR f/4 lens. I also have a 70-200 VR f/2.8 lens that I started out with. I haven't been out with it much this winter. I hope to get out this coming weekend though.
How was the focus speed on the Tamron? I've heard that as long as you get a good copy, the sharpness parallels that of many Canon equivalents, even wide open. I'm considering the Tamron 17-50 F2.8 for a walk-around lens. I here you on the body size. That's why I went with the 30D instead of the Rebel line. The bigger body is just a better fit in my hand, and I liked the inclusion of the scroll wheel that the rebel line didn't have at the time (plus I get 5fps, better ISO performance, and a top mount LCD info screen).
Focus speed was okay, but not great. Pretty much what you'd expect for an aftermarket lens. Sharpness was very good. My biggest problem was vignetting when the lens was wide open. I'll try to dig up some examples when I get home tonight for reference. I think for the time being I'm going to hold onto my 3100 and pick up 1-2 lenses for it. For as much as I use it (which isn't enough) I'm not sure dropping the coin on the D7000 would be smart. I've got my eye on a 10-24mm super wide angle and a 35mm prime.
Canon EOS Rebel XT w/Sigma 70-300mm lens. Also shoot Fuji Finepix S5000 (mostly in the field) and Nikon Coolpix L120 which is kept in the vehicle. Also still shoot 35mm when I get a wild hair.
