As intense as an 8th grade basketball game can get anyway lol. My sons team made it to the championship game of a pretty big tournament with teams from all over the county. We were getting our butts handed to us all game. The other team was just a lot bigger and had a couple guards that could play for UNC (maybe not quite but they were good). Down by 16 with 9 minutes left it was time for big daddys pep talk lol.

Switched from man to a 2/3 extended trap zone and full court press when possible. The defensive pressure was crazy causing turnover after turnover. To make a long story short, ended up down by 2 with 9 seconds left and we had the ball after a change of possession on a tied ball. I drew up a play where we would pick to free up our guard to get the inbounds and a backdoor screen that he was supposed to pass to our guy that got freed up for a layup and head to OT. I decided against the 3 and take my chances in OT the way we were hounding them on D and the momentum we had.

Well the screen for the inbound pass was good and our guard got the ball. The backdoor screen was set and it was looking really good for a chip shot. But our guard decided he wanted to end it with a 3 instead of passing it to the wide open guy underneath. He launches the 3 and misses. Fortunately the play ended up working kind of because the ball came off the other side of the basket for a tip in with .5 seconds left to tie it.

During the break I had a few words with the young lad that decided to be the hero. He did have an open look and can shoot the ball, but the play also would have worked perfect and higher percentage. My call not his. Anyway ... after he gave me a few more gray hairs back at it in OT. We continued our defensive pressure and ended up winning by 11 in OT to win the Championship. I lost my voice, lost 10 lbs from sweating, 27 more gray hairs, and really could use a beer or 2 lol. But we got it done. Good foul shooting down the end to clinch it too which is always good to see. Proud of the boys! Gym was rocking and loud. Huge crowd. Parents going crazy. Me going crazy. Good times. Back to our normal league play which we ... well kind of dominate everyone.

Very cool! I'll admit, I'm not a big follower of basketball, but I bet that was exciting.

Yep... I may develop an ulcer coaching and watching high school sports with my boys. Definitely don't see myself making it through the college years lol.

I'll tell ya what's funny is watching yourself coaching on film. My wife films the kids while playing so we can analyze it later. I'm in the background of a lot of it. I'm a pretty laid back mellow dude. A definite Jekyll and Hyde when I'm coaching. I didnt' know I had such moves and vocals lol.

LMAO!!!! I see it all the time a wrestling matches. I didnt think the kids coach could lean over so far without tipping over. I love the parents that try to get out of the hold in the stands. School sports are awsome,
