Need some advice on ph testing soil. was wondering if there was anyone that could recommend some hand held ph tester products that are in expensive. Trying to plant a few small foot plots this year and need to check the ph levels in the soil and would like to have something i can use year after year.

I would find where you could send a sample. Check with your local co-op, don't rely on a hand held tester.

Hand held testers aren't very reliable. White tail institute offers soil testing. I used their service this year and was very happy with the results. And they were very quick. I had the results in my email within 4-5 days of sending off the sample

I would second the suggestion of using WTI's sampling service. They received my results on a Monday and I had an email from the before 9:00 am on Tuesday morning. The information on their sheet was far superior to what I received from the local SWCD office.

I personally use a small handheld tester that I got from a local nursery and it was pretty accurate. I use it for my home garden and I always have great yield. I guess it depends on the brand of the tester or where you get it.
