I recall that when Mark and Sammy were in the home run race Mark had Andro in his locker, it was not against MLB rules at that point. People forget that before the Mitchell report steroids were not against any rule MLB had.
So gaining an advantage on the field by bending the rules is more excusable than betting on your team to win as a manager after you had long since hung up your cleats? Come on man, even you can't honestly believe that to be true...
Just because it wasn't a rule doesn't mean it was right. Guys that took steroids to obtain those HOF numbers are on the ballot. If they are, Pete should be.
Mark McGuire never failed any tests because...well...they didn't test for performance enhancing drugs in MLB back then since they actually wanted players to use them (they would never admit to that). McGuire has since admitted to using steriods during his career.
You can build all of the bridges in the world, and never be called a bridge builder, but suck just one little d........ As it should be.........................
I'm sorry, he should be in the HOF! He is one of the top hitters of all time and holds an all time record that has stood for 29 years and will not be touched for years to come. You can not deny what he was able to do as a player regardless of what he did as a manager.
not just yes but HELL YES... no one at the time or since played the game like he did..... one of the greatest of all time.. What he did after his playing day should not matter...
