Grant's thread on Lymes Disease got me thinking as turkey season is just a few days away for some of us. Ticks and chiggers are two of my least favorite parts of Spring and Summer activities... If you don't have chiggers in your area, be thankful, very thankful.

Anyway, I'm sure most of you use some type of insect repellent (and very possibly permethrin) but I wanted to toss it out there. I've had excellent results repelling ticks, mosquitos and chiggers. Simply hang your clothes outside and spray them the night before you need to wear them. The stuff I bought from the army surplus store left no smell (obviously doesn't matter for turkeys) and works for several weeks and through a few washings. Make sure you do not spray your skin with this stuff, I didn't read that in the pamphlet either :fro:

If you're tired of insects... check out some permethrin spray.

I was going to give you the name of the stuff I bought at the Army surplus store but I can't find it, the only other stuff that I personally have experience with is Sawyer brand and it worked just as well... I bought mine at Cabelas.

Thanks, Dubbya. Like I said in Grant's thread, I had Lyme's disease two springs ago, and it wasn't fun for the little bit I had it. Luckily I caught it early, and it was treated. I WILL try this stuff out this spring season.

We sell some stuff through the BH cart called Duranon Odorless Tick Repellent. Never used it personally, but we sell a TON of it each spring. May be worth a shot.

I have had personal experience w. Permethrin by Sawyer. It is an excellent product. I have used it on trips to the Boundary Waters in Northern Minnesota, where I had people report picking over 100 ticks off them in one setting. I pretreated my clothes with permethrin before the trip, and had 1 loose tick on my pants the whole trip. It works.......

I was able to pick up a bunch of the Repel Brand permethrin that was on clearance, but have yet to test it out, but it has the same percentage of the active ingredient so should work equally as well.

For me, it is well worth a purchase.

Believe me, when Lymes isn't caught (no bite site or bite site ignored) it's nasty stuff. Coming up on two years for me. Thought I was dying. I'll be sprayed up with something when I am out hunting birds.

It's Great stuff!! I judged AKC field trials for years and I wouldn't go in the field without it.
