Morning guys, Today was my first bow hunt and deer hunt ever. While I have done duck and pheasant this was very different. I changed my stand sight at the last minute and I think I should have stayed with my first choice which was by a deer highway I found(keep in mind its public land). I put my stand up where I tracked some deer and had a buck blow at me. Now I not discouraged I kinda stinks I did not see anything. It was a morning full of lessons like getting use to packing in my stand, getting everything configured how I wanted my bow hanger etc. setup. Other than being a little cold I enjoyed it for sure. How long do you guys sit for a morning hunt? Till noon or later? I've done my scouting last month just could use a little advice or a nudge that I'm doing the right thing and if there is anything I might not be doing that I should. This is a great site and have learned a lot from you guys already. Thanks and hope you guys have a great season!
I sit until around 9 am this time of year. the bucks will be bedded by then and its a safe time to sneak back out. In november I will sit all day if I can or until 12. break for a quick lunch and nap and hit the stand at 2pm. I'm sure you are doing things well. Deer don't use every trail everyday. Sometimes you have to "streak hunt" a certain spot to see deer. If you can find a pinch point you will see more deer than if you just sit over a trail in the open hardwood. a typical streak is 4-5 days. Deer like to walk along ridge lines but that doesn't mean they wont walk in valleys. Make sure the wind is right for your setup and try and sit 18ft high if possible. Good luck!
Depending on deer movement and temp, This time of the year ill get out at 930 1030. But after Oct 25th through November im in the stand as much as possible.
Great advice thanks guys! I was back to the truck by 10 so it sounds like I was right on wanting to get out of the tree. I was sitting at the top of a ridge this morning. Good, sounds like but gut was right and I think next time I'll be on the "deer highway" next time that over looks a creek with a ton of traffic. Thanks again!
