    We did that once, but

Proponents of this view often point to the 1950s, when the top federal income tax rate was 91 percent for most of the decade.[1] However, despite these high marginal rates, the top 1 percent of taxpayers in the 1950s only paid about 42 percent of their income in taxes.

How about we cut benefits to those who could be working and are not. Instead of unemployment benefits, alter military spending to hiring those people for a 4-year enlistment. Their lives would be improved by learning skills in the military that could translate into better jobs after discharge since, most likely, the education system didn't its job. Benefits can stay place for people have legitimate reasons for not being able to hold a job, like someone who has Down Syndrome. Anyone who is physically and mentally capable of working should be rather than receiving a check for nothing.

What is wrong with the environment in the US? I have worked in the environmental field for the last 30+ years, the groundwater has never been cleaner, pollution have been drastically cut, it is a weak rallying point.

Because you deal with facts. Actual facts. People that dont, make up stuff and piss people off. And then those pissed off people dont do any research on said topic then pass off that stupidness to others.

Well the environment is more about what you listed, many more factors. So only a lemming would state what you did:)

Well let's hear about all these other factors, I am mainly only concerned about things that we can change and control not climate fear mongering.

Maybe it is a drop in the bucket, but my understanding of the government's role in America, is that National Defense is one of its few designated responsibilities, outside of protecting our freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. So, if money is going to be wasted, better there than other places.

Along these lines of the environment.....I got two notices in the mail this week. Our utility company is petitioning the state utilities commission for a 25% increase in BOTH natural gas and electricity. Mostly due to the expense of building new wind farms. Wind farms that are highly subsidized by the government. So, my taxes are going into a project that is increasing the cost of my utilities by 25 freaking percent! The windmills have so far been proven to be major problems with maintenance and do not last for more than a very few years before needing extensive overhauls. And, they are filled with hydraulic oil that can leak and pollute our farm ground and waters. Not to mention the countless birds that the blades are killing. Migrating waterfowl and soaring birds are getting whacked at an alarming rate. By the way, as a lemming, I must point out that the arctic was supposed to have been completely melted by now and Florida was supposed to be under water. I think we learned all of that at about the same time as Al Gore was inventing the internet. I haven't been to the arctic or Florida recently....anyone have a report?
