Friday's Penguins/Islanders game was slated to be a retaliation fight after the Penguins Goalie busted up the Islanders Goalie, what we got was over 300 minutes of penalties and a slugfest. http://phoenix.fanster.com/2011/02/12/nhl-–-islanderspenguins-fight-fest-by-the-numbers-–-video/
I have no comment on this one but did anyone catch the game between the Wild and Blue's last night? It was awesome!! Stoner took care of business right after the game was over.
The cool thing was that It was Hockey Day In Minnesota yesterday. The Gophers blew out Denver and then the Wild won against the Blues. Good day to be a Minnesotan.
It's one thing to "police" yourselves, that debacle that happened friday night was far over the edge, and way out of hand.
Rybo....I pretty much agree. Part of policing your own game, is the guy that needs policing has to know he's done something wrong...and therefore be cognizant of what's coming to him. He's earned it. I'm not a fan of anyone being blind-sided. And, there was some of that in this game.
To be honest, there really was no policing that even needed done. The goalie fight was fair with 2 willing combatants. It just happened one guy lost badly. The I's putting a ton of pucks past Johnson should have been it. BUT they decided to also go after Talbot, several times. He laid a clean body check on one of thier guys last game, wasnt really even thier best player or anything. It so happened that guy got hurt. There was nothing cheap about the check, no real need to get revenge IMO. Repeated attempts to deliberately injure guys should never be tolerated in any sport. And the I's went way over the line more than once.
I was at a Blackhawks game back in the early 90's that was bad. The goalies stayed out of it but the other ten players were duking it out. Grimson cleared the wall to help out a fellow player and ended up tied up by a ref for a while. Later he was being held by his coach and then went after the opposing players. We didn't get out of the game until almost 11:30 and had at least a half hour delay while they chipped the blood out of the ice and repaired it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EXLoC7DwXg
From my limited exposure, Ryan....the I's were upset that the Penguins were laughing at the injury to their guy from the previous incident. They felt like they weren't getting the respect they deserved (or, that any hockey team should warrant). So, they decided to let 'em know they had a more fire than people thought. The incident I'm talking about being BS....is when players get blind-sided in a fight. That's horse ****. And, I saw some of that in those clips.
Those shots should be treated like a helmet on helmet NFL fine. If they were paying 10k for a hit like that it would stop pretty quick.
Mario can't be taken seriously on such matters, as long as Matt Cooke is still wearing a Penguins sweater. He'd do more good if he just kept his mouth shut.
Fighting Is a part of hockey and I'm all for It but lately there's been some stupid **** going on with cheap shots and such which In turn has caused the fighting. I'm a huge hockey fan but I agree that It's gotten a little carried away lately. These guys better pick their fights sparingly as the NHL won't hesitate to ban It I believe or put hefty suspensions on anyone who throws hands. This Is the last thing any NHL hockey player/fan wants to see Including myself (ban fighting and/or huge suspensions for fighting). In my opinion they need to nail the guys hard with suspensions that are doing the cheap shots and not the guys who are fighting the dudes who are doing the cheap shot stuff.
Rybo: I'm all for enforcers. They're a part of the game. I'm 100% against goons. Matt's a POS goon (IMO), and he's a tough guy wannabe. If you disagree....we'll just disagree. No hard feelings.
