So I've got a neighbor that insists on feeding the squirrels. I wouldn't mind, but she insists on doing it right next to my garden. They are going ape s&#t on my garden, and really ruining most everything in there. I need something fairly quiet, that will make a 30-40 yard killing shot on a squirrel fairly consistently. Anyone have suggestions? I don't mind spending a bit more $$$ to come up with one that will be accurate enough to get it done.
I have been looking into this a bit lately and found this website. They have a lot of info that I have started working my way through. I have settled on .177 for the caliber now I just have to decide what I want to spend. I think I will get a scoped rifle though. http://www.pyramydair.com/
If you want quiet, go with a lower power air rifle and shoot when they're closer. Those high power air rifles are loud. I use my bow or the .22 loaded with CB's for nuisance critter control. For what it's worth, I've found CCI CB's are quieter than Remington CB's.
I have a Beeman .177/.22 with a 3-9 scope on it I think I paid 150 for it. When I was in California we could use the .22 for turkey. I do not recommend using it with one of the pellet traps from WalMart they tend to go through them.
I believe they are called a GAMMA, but they are loud. My unlce has one and man does that thing shoot quick. I have also read that Stoeger has an air rifle but I have no expierence with them. An old daisy 880 would kill them in close and should be very quiet.
What about those "whisper" ones I see commercials on? I have no real world experience with anything other than a couple of basic crossman's. I did make a nice 30 yd shot on a red squirrel once. But its a little loud.
I have an older RWS Model 45 - dead nuts accurate, but not really that quiet. Gamo has the Whisper but all of the reviews I see on them are mixed, some love them some hate them.
I have one, they are a little quieter, but if your neighbor is outside they will hear it. Mine is accurate once I got it dialed in about 20 yds.Hope this helps
I have a Beeman and can't get much accuracy from it. It is a spring activated single cock model. I think the shock from the spring at the shot makes the whole gun move. I cannot get a decent group to save my life, even with a steady rest. The gun seems to jump when I pull the trigger. If you can test one out before you buy.
