What should I see when I'm at full draw and looking through the peep site at my pins and "housing around the pins"? Should my peep site perfectly align with the housing around the pins? My site only feels about half of the peep site, is this correct? I have a peep site with no rubber connector. When I bought my bow the guy recommended going with a larger peep site for better low light shooting. I would say its roughly the size of straw in a drink from Mc Donald' or slightly bigger.
Not a pro here but I think it has to do with what sight you have and what size peep - Some sights have a recommended peep sight size on the package. Your peep circle should align with your sight housing. i.e you should be able to see all of your pins without being able to see outside of your sight housing... -taylor
It's just the peep size. It is another aspect of archery that allows personal choice. A larger peep means that you will have more light and better ability to shoot in low light situations, a smaller peep (one that would not align with the housing and actually be inside of the housing, you would center whatever pin you are using in it) allows for better accuracy but you will not be able to see through it in low light situations.
Target shooters like them to line up and are very anal about it for accuracy. As a bowhunter I prefer to have more light available at prime time; dawn and dusk. So I shoot 1/4" peeps and don't worry if my sight and peep don't line up. I just center the pin. I shoot year round so I get plenty of practice and do it without even realizing I am now.
