Do you need anything other than the peep. Someone [I overheard] was telling another guy that he needed to put on some thing with the peep to keep it straight or something. It confused me. Maybe he was talking about some serving or something. They were country folk, so I couldn't really understand what the guy was saying. lol.
Sounds like one of the peeps that have that rubber tubing tied to the string so when you draw it stays aligned. I had one on my bow but I took it off because it made a lot of noise.
the rubber tubing can also slow down the bow a few FPS & then there is always the chance if it breaking out in the field.... with a modern good quality strings, you don't need to use the tubing...
No, He was talking about the G5. THat is why I got confused. Is there something special that you have to use on a string to keep it straight? I didn't get it, I don't know if he knew what he was talking about...
I currently use a 1/4 Super Ball 42 degree Hooded Peep. This was a result of the possibilty of shooting a "no holds barred" league that ended up in the can after the shop closed up. It was so I could put a verifier in to shoot a lens. Prior to that, and on my straight hunting setup that I have ordered, I have and will continue to shoot a plain 'ol Eastman Tru Vision 7/32 peep.
G5 1/4" here too. No complaints. One of the guys at my LBS, took an extra turn on my string before installing the peep and so far, I haven't had any problems with it twisting or turning... knock on wood, or carbon fiber.
i do have the problem with my g5 turning on dang near every shot but i have gotten pretty used to lining it up with my nose or mouth at full draw. lol
Those country folk might have been talking about puting some serving string on the peep to keep it from sliding up and down. That's what my bowguy does for me, works great.
I just switched from a peep with a tube, to a 3/16" G5. I love it. I agree with bh546, they were probably referring to serving it in place so it doesn't slide up or down the string. I also put some serving around the peep itself, per G5's directions. I personally think that peep tubes are too noisy and fragile, especially in the cold late season. It's not fun when the tubing snaps at full draw.
I have seen that happen in leagues. The guy was hurtin real bad. Caught him right in the cornea. That had to suck. lol. I did have to laugh though.
i am not happy with it but i dont know how to adjust the loop as i dont know much about tuning a bow i am just starting out this is my first year so until i find out how to fix it i just have to deal with it
I would say have the shop twist, or untwist your string. That is if you have "a shop". Or just get a new bow. That always works. XD
I use the same peep (s) as Ben. I tried the G5 and to be honest, I'm not a fan. I prefer the Tru Peep. I found the G5 to have too much glare inside the peep itself under many circumstance. The Tru is the same in all pretense however slightly heavier but no glare. The glare turned me off of the G5. One one G5 peep I Sharpied the inside to eliminate glare. I don't want to have to do that. I'll simply buy the Tru.
I use the string splitter mini and love it. With this peep you don't have to worry about not seeing through it when it starts to get dark. That was one of my pet peaves with other peeps.
