Is there one better then another? After my stand dropping on my bow today and mangling my rest and knocking the crap out of my sight...was out shooting in the yard after getting things fixed up and paper tuning. I realize I am frustrated as hell with the Hind Sight I purchased this year and want to go back to a peep. Going to test their return policy. I have my old peep, just kind of wondering if there are any better before I split the string and go back to the peep. Thanks
Ditto. I love mine. I can shoot from about any weird arse angle and still get my arrow where I want it. People who use peeps will tend to torque the bow or pull the string in those situations and not know it until their arrow hits somewhere weird. That doesn't mean much when your standing in the yard shooting at targets, but it makes a huge difference when that deer is standing behind your treestand and you have to lean off the platform to make the shot.
i have broken 5 arrows and sent countless into the woods since I went to the Hind Sight... With the peep, never off the target. I seem to be having a hard time keeping a consistent anchor point - it has made me much less confident. Just got done shooting before I go out this afternoon...broke another arrow going to the right of the target. Yesterday I was slamming arrows together out to 30...its driving me nuts with inconsistency. It may just be me, but I am having a hell of a time with it.
Close your eyes and draw your bow back, come to your comfortable 'natural' anchor'. Natural open grip on the bow too... Then open your eyes. Is the rear hind sight anywhere close to being lined up with your pins? If not, then you are forcing an anchor point and hand-hold around your hindsight. It should be the other way around. The hindsight should be re-enforcing your anchor point and grip, not forcing it. It would be the same as 'muscling a shot' with a rifle as opposed to using natural point of aim. You can get away with muscling shots for only so long. Good luck with it or the peep! Confidence is important.
I currently have the G5 meta and I'm not very impressed. I mean it does its job but not too well in low light, like most peeps. I'm thinking about switching to the string splitter "claw" peep. All the string splitter peeps allow in more light but this particular model is rounded at the bottom so you can light up your sight housing with the peep, just as many do with traditional peeps. I have a friend that shoots one of the String Splitters and he swears by it. https://www.sternerduttera.com/store/string_splitter_peep_sights.asp
Interesting. Thanks for sharing, I have been thinking about trying a Hind Sight. I still am, but it is good to have the heads up about potential issues.
No offense, but it sounds like YOU are the problem, but at the same time, if you can't get comfortable with it, then you need to find what you ARE comfortable with. I think you need to follow Christine's advice and make sure you're hitting a comfortable and consistent anchor I have tubed peeps on most of my rigs, but I also have a Fletcher Tru-peep and a G5 on a couple bows, I like the Fletcher a little better than the G5, but in all honesty, I still like my TUBED peeps as much as anything......
I have the G5 Meta Peep and I loved it, switched over to the Vaportrail Clear Orange Peep and it's better in lowlight for hunting!!! My G5 was 1/4" and now my Vaportrail is 3/16" and I like the 3/16" much better as well.
FM ... let me know if you wanna sell that sight Good luck with VS today! You guys have a great time and lay down something
I switched a few years ago to the timberline no-peep. It take a bit to get setup however, I love it. I love it so much that I bought one for my other bow that my dad is now using. He likes it a lot. I would highly recommend it.
