I'm still pretty darn new to archery in general. Just bought my 1st bow a few months ago, and I'm tryin to figure out the basics of all the pieces that make up a compound. I bought a bear encounter (about the bottom of the Bear line as far as price). So far, I love the bow, but the bowstring is made up of 3 strands, not 2 like all the others I've seen. This causes a dilemma that's occurring more and more often lately. When I go to full draw, I either have 1 of the 3 strands blocking the side of my sight picture, or completely covering my pins all together... a complete wrench in the gears when I'm trying to shoot. Anyway, apart from upgrading the strings and cables (which I won't have money for until a few months from now) is there anything I can do to correct this issue? Thanks in advance

hi Shredder, my wife shoots the Bear Charge and the package i purchased with it saw it come with a peep site that was held in place by dividing the 9 odd strands into 3 groves on the peep.

When the string sets in a peep can rotate and what i think your desribing (apologies if im wrong) is that one of those 3 is now in the way.

Firstly, that range of Bear bows (at least when i bought mine) come with an average set of string and cable, but they will do the job for lots of shots, so i wouldnt be in a hurry to spend the money, rather put it aside for a better bow as you grow into the sport.

Take your bow to a shop and ask them to serve you in either a 'self aligning peep' which comes with an annoying piece of rubber which can then give you problems in pivotal times, or (what i recommend) another peep which will allow the string to be divided into 2 strands and has a groove around it for some serving to hold it in place.

Take a look at the Fletchers Tru peep, only 8.5 grains, comes in a few sizes to suit your style, is cheap and wont slow you bow down too much being light.

hope that helps mate, straight arrows, cheers Doz

The peep sight you have on the bow is triple split peep. This takes the 24 strands (or however many they made the string from but this is the norm) and splits them into three even bundles holding the peep. As stated above string twist is causing the peep to rotate in a manner that one of these bundles is blocking your view. The best course of action for this is an easy fix of changing the peep sight out for a standard version that splits the string into two bundles. This will not stop the peep from rotating, but will allow you to position the peep in a manner that when the rotation is done, the peep is aligned with your eye and the picture is clear. Take it to your shop and have them change the triple split for a double split and the problem will be solved.
